In defense of Cracker Barrel

Hey everybody I thought I would mention this on here, as I did on Facebook and on Twitter.

For those who are upset about what Cracker Barrel is doing in relation to duck dynasty and Phil Robertson; here is why they are doing what they’re doing.

Back in the 1990’s Cracker Barrel had a big run in with gay advocacy groups over hiring practices.

Apparently what happened was that a manager or an employee who was found out to be a homosexual was fired from his job.

Needless to say there was considerable amount of outrage and lawsuits were filed.

So what is happening is this Cracker Barrel is trying to avoid any and all controversy related to the gay community.

Cracker Barrel lost a lot of business when that happened and thought they were going to have to close a bunch of stores up over it.

So they’re trying to play it safe. As someone who has run a business in my day and knows what it is to have bad things about them, I totally understand why they’re doing what they’re doing.

Just letting you all know.

Update: Rick’s Rants links in. Thank you!

  1. Phil did NOT make his views on A&E, he made them as he did an interview in GQ so you may want to get your facts straight before you go posting information. He is entitled to his opinion and as Christian he is speaking upon the bible. Everybody who is upset over this with and pulling merchandise and pulling him from the show are cowards and in stead of putting God first, they are putting money first. That’s a sad day in America.

    1. I just went and read the posting that this comment was made about; nowhere in it do I say that Phil Robertson made his comments on A&E. I know good and well or he made them and I don’t need your rude behavior on my blog. You might want to read your Bible where it talks about kindness towards those that you disagree with. Because right now you’re leaving a pretty bad impression on me as a Christian. What I’m really trying to say is: grow up.

    2. I find It truly amazing that people that call themselves Christians, when confronted with the facts, but the fact that what is happening here is not covered under the First Amendment; those same Christians take the attitude of a heathen and act like one when challenged.

it is a true sad state of affairs as to the condition of modern-day Christianity. Which is one of the reasons why I left the evangelical Christian circles in favor of the old school fundamental Baptist circles.

Sorry if what I said offends anyone. But, that little attack was on called for and I don’t know what God she truly serves or which Jesus she serves; but it ain’t the same Jesus that I serve can tell you that.

    3. I just happened to look for the comments for this blog posting. And I see what you’re talking about now.

Please allow me to explain myself.

When I made mention of Phil Robertson expressing his views on A&E I was referring to his Christian values. I did not mean to infer that he made his offensive comments on A&E.

I know good and well that he made his comments in GQ magazine. I assumed everyone knew that I knew where he made his comments.

So I do apologize if someone miss understood what I wrote.

However, I do believe that the rudeness of your comments were inappropriate for this blog and I do not believe that you should have took what I wrote personally.

Again as I have stated in another blog posting: Phil Robertsons First Amendment rights were not violated. The only thing that has happened is that A&E network has caved to a homosexual advocacy group. And Cracker Barrel is looking to protect itself from persecution from a homosexual advocacy group.

If Christians decide they’re going to be that childish and not eat there anymore then more power to him I’m sure other restaurants will cater to them.

However it does strike me as being a being childish.

I also find it kind of ironic that the same people are complaining about Phil Robertson’s suspension from the A&E Network are not saying anything about his potentially offensive comments about African Americans or blacks if you want to call them that. I mean personally, I found those comments to be extremely offensive. Because I happen to know for a fact that the south was a cesspool of institutionalized racism in the fifties and sixties. But I don’t see any Christians being outraged about that, unless of course they might actually agree with him and harbor actual bigotry against blacks.

It just saddens me that the same people that are complaining about the persecution of Christians don’t have a problem in the world persecuting blacks and calling them racist in order to deflect the actual charge of racism off of them. That is the tactics of the Trotskyite right and I don’t play that game here at all.

  2. I am sad to say that there will be no more Cracker Barrel meals for our family. For the past twenty years we have averaged dining with Cracker Barrel once per week, and always when we travelled. Christians all across America will no longer continue to use Carcker Barrrel restauants.

  3. Believe me, they are going to lose a lot more business
by this decision they have made about Duck Dynasty products!
They just have no clue what they have done making this
    huge mistake.
Sorry to hear, but hey, Phil has a right to his freedom of speech, although the gays seem to not think he does not.

      Hi Cary,

There seems to be some confusion about the First Amendment of the the United States Constitution.

The first amendment DOES NOT guarantee you the right expouse your personal views on blacks and homosexuals on a privately owned television network. UPDATE: PLEASE SEE BELOW!

The only thing that the US Constitution protects you from is the repression of free speech from the US GOVERNMENT. A&E network is not Government owned.

Phil Robertson does have the right to express his views, but, A&E is not obligated to allow those rights to be expressed on their network. Nor is Cracker Barrel obligated to carry Duck Dynasty or Duck Commander products. Both are private businesses.

Is what A&E is doing discrimination? Yes. Is it bias against Christians? Absolutely. But it is not a violation of the first amendment at all.

The only thing that A&E is guilty of, is caving to pressure from a gay special interest group.

      That is all, nothing else.

I do hope that Phil Robertson and the family of Duck Commander finds a better network, that is friendly to the speech of Christianity. because it is quite obvious that A&E is not.

I just felt the need to clear that up.

UPDATE: Someone came by here and left a rather rude comment, accusing me of distorting the facts.

So, I shall explain what I meant. When I said this:

The first amendment DOES NOT guarantee you the right expouse your personal views on blacks and homosexuals on a privately owned television network.

I was referring to Phil Robertson’s Christian beliefs and convictions. Not his offensive remarks. I know good and well where they were made, in GQ Magazine. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding. However, I felt the rudeness of the comment was a bit off putting.
