UPDATED: Joe Frazier RIP – Yes, he was a Christian
We have lost a great boxing legend…
Via the NYT:
Joe Frazier, the former heavyweight champion whose furious and intensely personal fights with a taunting Muhammad Ali endure as an epic rivalry in boxing history, died Monday night. He was 67.His business representative, Leslie Wolff, told The Associated Press on Saturday that Frazier had liver cancer and that he had entered hospice care.
Known as Smokin’ Joe, Frazier stalked his opponents around the ring with a crouching, relentless attack — his head low and bobbing, his broad, powerful shoulders hunched — as he bore down on them with an onslaught of withering jabs and crushing body blows, setting them up for his devastating left hook.
It was an overpowering modus operandi that led to versions of the heavyweight crown from 1968 to 1973. Frazier won 32 fights in all, 27 by knockouts, losing four times — twice to Ali in furious bouts and twice to George Foreman. He also recorded one draw.
A slugger who weathered repeated blows to the head while he delivered punishment, Frazier proved a formidable figure. But his career was defined by his rivalry with Ali, who ridiculed him as a black man in the guise of a Great White Hope. Frazier detested him.
A video that will be remembered forever:
They just do not build ’em like that anymore.
Update: For the many people who are searching about it. Yes, he was a Christian. See here. Enjoy glory Joe; we’ll see you soon.
Russia’s Foreign Minister to Israel: You attack Iran and you will regret it
Bible Prophecy in the making………….
Via the U.K. Telegraph:
In comments published in the Israeli daily Hayom, Mr Peres said that “the possibility of a military attack against Iran is now closer to being applied than the application of a diplomatic option”.“We must stay calm and resist pressure so that we can consider every alternative,” he added. The drumbeat of war is expected to grow louder this week when United Nations nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, issues its most detailed report to date on nuclear research in Iran.It will provide what Western officials and experts regard as irrefutable evidence that Tehran is compiling the capacity and skills to build a bomb. It will be used as leverage for a fifth round of sanctions at the UN, but could also provide Israel, with the tacit support of Washington, to finalise plans for an air strike.Among its findings are that Tehran was helped by nuclear experts from two countries, believed to be Russia and Pakistan. The Washington Post reported that key assistance was provided by Vyacheslav Danilenko, a former Soviet nuclear scientist, hired by Iran’s Physics Research Centre.
Documents handed over to UN officials showed that he had worked for the Iranians for at least five years, giving lectures and sharing his expertise on developing and testing an explosives package that the Iranians have now succeeded in making part of their blueprint for a nuclear warhead.
Moscow, the closest thing Iran has to a big power ally, is deeply opposed to any military action against the Islamic republic, though Moscow has supported UN Security Council sanctions against Tehran.
“This would be a very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences,” said Mr Lavrov, addressing reporters in Moscow. “Military intervention only leads to a multiple rise in casualties and human suffering.”
Looks like the old school Fundamentalists and dispensationalists, like C.I. Scofield were correct in their feelings years ago; when they said that a move on Israel, by Russia would happen, which would bring forth the second advent of Christ. First, however, the rapture of the Church must happen first. Look up my fellow believers, for your redemption draws near.
Detroit is going broke
This is not a story that I enjoy writing; in fact it saddens me to even have to write it.
Via Reuters:
(Reuters) – Detroit is in “extremely serious financial condition,” as it is projected to run out of cash next year and must take action to avoid a state takeover, Mayor Dave Bing said on Thursday.
Michigan’s largest city is facing a projected cash shortage of about $150 million by the end of March, a statement from his office said.To avoid having a state-appointed emergency financial manager, the city needs to address pension and healthcare costs and “inefficient services” such as transportation and lighting, while labor union contracts need to be renegotiated before their expiration next June, the statement said.
“City government has to live within its means,” Bing said in the statement. “Continuing to do business the same way is not an option, given our extremely serious financial condition. The last thing I want is for Detroit to be run by an emergency financial manager, whether it’s me or someone else.”
