Good News: Detroit automobile sales are up!

As a son of retired General Motors worker, this always strikes me as very good news:

DETROIT- General Motors Co. announced today that it sold 224,314 vehicles in the United States in February, up 7 percent compared with a year ago.

Retail sales and fleet sales were both up 7 percent. The fleet mix was 25 percent of total sales, equal to a year ago, officials said.

“The housing sector has now joined auto sales in propelling the U.S. economy forward,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of U.S. sales operations. “More importantly, the recovery in new home construction is reinforcing the underlying improvement in auto buying conditions, especially for pickups.

All four GM brands posted higher year-over-year sales: Cadillac was up 20 percent; Buick was up 15 percent; GMC was up 10 percent, and Chevrolet was up 5 percent.

This is great news. I just hope the Detroit can keep up the sales and help spur the economy back to what it was, or at least as close as we can get it.

The Price of Fascism

Please note: When I write this here, I am not doing it to bad mouth anyone at all. Least of all the UAW or the General Motors or Chrysler workers. It simply is not their fault that the companies that they work for were horribly mismanaged for many years and are now not doing so hot.

As much as I like the fact that my Father did not lose his retirement from General Motors and gets his medical benefits via the UAW’s program that they set up for him. I must acknowledge the truth and the truth is that General Motors and Chrysler were bailed out by the United States Government. One of the tenets of fascism is, in fact, the mingling of private industry and Government.

When the mingling of private industry and Government take place a price is paid. First of all, a company loses its freedom to conduct business as it sees fit. Second of all, the people of said Country usually pay a price in their wallets. Such as the case with General Motors, which happens to be because General Motors was and still is a poorly managed company.

The story via The Detroit News, which is a Conservative/Libertarian slanted newspaper:

Washington — The U.S. Treasury has begun selling the remainder of its 19 percent stake in General Motors Co.

On Jan. 18, the Treasury filed a written trading plan to sell its remaining 300 million shares of stock in the Detroit automaker. It plans to exit completely by March 2014 and said it could immediately begin selling small numbers of shares on the open market.

In a report to Congress, the Treasury said it had net proceeds of $156.4 million in January for the sale of GM stock during eight full trading days.

GM’s stock price ranged between $27.61 and $29.16 during the period, meaning Treasury sold at least 5.4 million shares, depending on the prices it received.

On a quarterly basis, the Treasury plans to disclose how many share of GM stock it has sold and will report monthly its proceeds from the sale.

In December, the Treasury sold 200 million shares of its GM stock to the Detroit automaker for $5.5 billion, or $27.50 a share.

But, of course, there is a cost:

The government needs to get $72 per share for its remaining shares to break even on its $49.5 billion GM bailout. It initially held a 61 percent stake before selling about half of its shares in GM’s November 2010 IPO at $33 a share.

At current prices, the Treasury would lose more than $12 billion on its GM bailout.

Last week, the Treasury Department said its estimate of losses on the $85 billion auto bailout fell by 16 percent, or $4 billion, in large part because of a rebound in General Motors Co.’s stock price.

The Obama administration said in a report to Congress that its projected auto losses fell to $20.3 billion, from its prior quarterly estimate of $24.3 billion.

The Treasury in 2009 initially forecast it would lose $44 billion on its bailout of GM, Chrysler Group LLC and their finance arms. That forecast fell to $30 billion by the end of 2009 and fell as low as $14.3 billion in 2011.

The Treasury still holds a 74 percent stake in Ally Financial, the Detroit-based auto finance firm, as part of a $17.2 billion bailout, but hopes to eventually break even. Ally is shedding its foreign operations as part of its efforts to repay taxpayers.

I bolded some parts of the quoted text above to give you idea of what I am talking about. Up there where it says, “The Treasury”, that means really “The American Taxpayer.” Anytime the United States Treasury is involved in any sort of bailout of private industry, your tax dollars are being used to bail out said company. That is not hatred of President Obama or the Democrats, that is the honest reality of the situation.

Again, this has not about having an axe to grind with the UAW, GM or Chrysler. This is simply a explanation of what happens when Government gets involved with the rescue of two auto companies that were in fact, headed for bankruptcy. The truth is that the American people lost on this deal and lost bad. As much as I respect the history of the UAW and of General Motors, in regards to my family — I must write the truth and this my friends, is the ugly truth.

Yes, and send me a few hundred million too!

I guess it is the wealthy’s job to bail out Detroit, which is swirling the drain.

DETROIT, MI – This city apparently has a friend in actress Mia Farrow who believes its times for the nation’s wealthiest people to help save the Motor City and other cash-strapped municipalities.

Farrow posted on her Twitter page Wednesday morning that “Detroit is near bankrupt” and that “now is the time for all good billionaires to come to the aide of our country” and “invest in USA and our youth.”

UPDATED: Detroit continues its swirl down the drain

But simply, this is what happens when you pursue a socialist agenda. This might just be America in a few years.

Via WXYZ-TV:

(WXYZ) – After reviewing the city’s finances, Detroit’s Financial Review Team has concluded that a financial emergency exists within the City of Detroit and it will be up to Governor Rick Snyder to determine if the state should extend a consent agreement with the city to resolve the crisis – or appoint an emergency financial manager.

In the report, the Review Team states there is no satisfactory plan that exists to resolve a serious financial problem.

Here’s the documents:

I would assume that this basically means that Detroit is just downright broke. It’s sad too. Detroit was once a great city, but it has gone downhill since Mayor Young took it over in 1978.

I think all Americans ought to take a hard look at this, and ask yourselves, “Do I want this for America?”

Just my Opinion.

Update: Yikes Indeed. Ordinarily, I would be a bit ticked off about a blog posting of this sort about Detroit. However, I will fully concede the point that Detroit has made a good deal of mistakes over the years; some that predate even me.  One of which was chasing the only honest black man who was Mayor of that city in the 1990’s in favor of a corrupt Democrat Mayor that is now looking at some sweet jail time for his corruption. The second major mistake was the throwing off of the free market capitalism in favor of an entitlement, racially based, socialist system that ended up bankrupting the city. It is a sad thing to say about one’s hometown; but it is, inevitably, the truth. I just hope and pray that Michigan can fix the problem, before things get worse down there. Because sometimes, Detroit’s problems spill over into the suburbs.

Still, it is a bit tough to see the city that I grew up in, as a kid, going through the stuff that it is going through; all the while knowing that it all could have been prevented. It does sadden me to my core. Detroit was once a great city, and now, it is, what it is. Which is nothing short of a crap-hole of socialism, black entitlement and utter waste. If anything, for the United States of America, Detroit should be an example of what not to do, when running a city.

Just my opinion.

Own too much stuff? Your city can call you a hoarder, set your house on fire and tear it down

This is unreal.

Check the video:

The local story via The Downriver News Herald:

TAYLOR — Cleanup after an early morning house fire continued throughout the day today on Goddard Road near Oak.

The house in the 23300 block of Goddard, across from the main fire station and City Hall, continued to smolder as it was being torn down at 11 a.m.

The house had been vacant for 20 years and was filled with debris in what Fire Chief Bob Tompos called a “hoarder situation.”

The fire started at 5 a.m. in the basement, Deputy Chief Dan Reynolds said, although the cause is still being investigated.

Debris inside was at window level on the main floor and about 6 inches from the ceiling in the basement. The attic also was filled.

Once the fire began, entry to the residence was obstructed by the items inside, which Reynolds estimated were 85 percent garbage.

With no one inside, responders contained the fire and poured water on it, Tompos said.

A section of the first floor was found collapsed into the basement due to the weight of the debris and fire damage inside, Reynolds said, contributing to the decision to raze the structure.

The fire burned for about two hours before being extinguished, although numerous hot spots smoldered and continued to crop up, delaying the demolition.

So, there you have it. Like to collect stuff? Don’t do it in Taylor, Michigan. because if you do; they’ll tear your house down. I got $5 that says someone from the city had that house torched, because someone was complaining about it and the city was powerless to do anything about it. So, about five in the morning, someone, most likely paid by the city, torched the house.

Just to be honest, I cannot prove my allegations at all. But I can tell you this; I have friends who live over in that city and the corruption in that it city is quite well known, and has been going on for years. Why do you think that the city is having so many problems? Because the past leadership over there was horrible corrupt for years— just like Ecorse and Detroit.

Even it is was a “hoarder,” does not that city have to get permission from the owners to tear it down like that, whatever happened to property rights? Whatever happened to getting a order from a court to tear something down, before just barging onto someone’s property and razing a building? Could not the fire dept just stay out and keep the fire from spreading? It just sounds like progressive leadership and city gone horrible wrong, if you ask me.

Local News: When naked drunks attack

Sorry, but you cannot write jokes this funny. Hee hee

Via the Detroit Free Press:

Police found a drunk, naked man on a Pontiac street after he apparently stole an acquaintance’s car and crashed it into a tree early Sunday.

A 22-year-old Pontiac woman called police at 2:05 a.m. Sunday claiming the 35-year-old man stole her car as she was letting it warm up in the driveway of a home on West Howard. He then drove it across the street and ran into a tree, she told Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Officers found him nearby, drunk and naked, with evidence that he had just been assaulted. He was too drunk to tell them what happened, according to investigator.

Local Story: Dope-headed parents from Wyandotte looking at prison time

I have no children of my own, but when it comes to kids, I have zero tolerance for stuff like this here:

A Wyandotte couple accused of forcing their two young children to stand in steaming hot water for so long that the youngsters’ feet were severely burned waived their rights to a preliminary hearing on Thursday, sending their cases straight to the Wayne County Circuit Court.

Erica Anne Bohn, 24, and Brandon Edward Soules, 28, will face a separate arraignment at 9 a.m. Dec. 20 in circuit court. Both are charged with two felony counts of second-degree child abuse, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Twenty-seventh District Judge Randall Kalmbach ordered that bond be continued as previously set—$20,000/10 percent for Bohn and $30,000/10 percent for Soules.

Neither have posted bond and remain locked up in the Wayne County Jail.

via Wyandotte Parents Waive Prelim; Head to Trial on Child Abuse Charges – Wyandotte, MI Patch.

Erica Anne Bohn, 25, and Brandon Edward Soules, 29 — Two dope-headed pukes who belong on death row, but will rot in a jail cell for a very long time — as they should!

People should not do drugs, that is a given; it is something I believe, sue me. People with kids, should really not do drugs and if they do; they should lose their kids, if they are caught doing the drugs. This right here, is a perfect example as to why I happen to be of that opinion.

Furthermore, this woman should be not be allowed to ever have anymore children. That’s right, I believe that this idiotic woman ought to be forced to have a hysterectomy. Cut off the breeding grounds, so this dope-headed fiend of a woman cannot breed again. Also too, force this man to be clipped too, so that he cannot be a sperm donor to anymore dope headed women.

I am normally an open-minded person, when it comes to such things. However, when it comes to children, I am the quintessential narrow-minded Luddite. You just do not do to children, what these two bastards did; and expect any sort of pity out of me, at all, period, end of story.

Governor Rick Snyder starts to feel the heat for his idiocy

I find this to be very encouraging, perhaps Governor Snyder did not realize what he was getting into, or maybe he did.

The Story via Greg Sargent at Washington Post:

The “right to work” battle in Michigan may not be over quite yet.

Top Democrats in the Michigan Congressional delegation just wrapped up their meeting with Governor Rick Snyder, during which they urged him in no uncertain terms: If you go forward with “right to work” legislation, you’ll be consigning the state to years of discord and division. They urged him to consider vetoing the legislation or postponing it until the next session — or even agreeing to subject it to referendum.

According to Dems who were on the call, Snyder told them he would “seriously” take into account their objections — which they took as a genuine indication of possible willingness, for now, to reconsider.

“The Governor listened, and he told us he would seriously consider our concerns,” Senator Carl Levin said on a conference call with reporters.

The tenor of the meeting, which participants described as urgent and intense, underscores the gravity of the situation — not just for Democrats, but for the state itself. Dems told Snyder that forging ahead with “right to work” legislation risked undermining the progress in labor-management relations in the state and could create a situation similar to Wisconsin, where an ongoing battle over collective bargaining tore the state apart for over a year.

I do not trust the weasel myself, and here is why; This comes via Deadline Detroit, which I had some choice words for once, and which I retract those words too — granted, I have not always liked what I have seen there, but I was a bit harsh on them, they have the right to publish what they wish, just like I do…:

Signing right-to-work legislation will have serious, even dire consequences on the state, congressional Democrats told Gov. Rick Snyder this morning, according to Kathleen Gray in the Free Press.

In a private meeting in Detroit between seven members of Congress and Snyder, Sen. Carl Levin told reporters afterward they asked Snyder to either veto the legislation or remove the appropriation attached to the bill, which would allow a statewide vote on the issue.

“The labor environment has dramatically improved in the state,” Levin said. But with right to work, “instead of having a Michigan united, we’re going to have a Michigan divided.”

A couple of hours after meeting with the delegation, Snyder signaled his continuing support of the right-to-work bills when he tweeted, “Freedom to work is all about creating more and better jobs in Michigan.”

So, basically, this guy is nothing more than a lying snake. If I were the labor movement, I would not trust him at all. if anything at all; I would begin to mount a recall effort against this man and get him out of office as soon as they possibly could. Like others have noted, Governor Snyder has proven that he is nothing more than a lying stack of crap and will say and do anything to stay in power — including straight up lie to get elected, like he did to me and every other person who trusted him.

There is two things in this world that I have little or no use for — and that is thieves and liars; and this idiot Snyder is a lying piece of crap, if there ever was one to be behold.  As the Detroit Free Press rightly noted, Governor Rick Snyder knowingly lied to the people of Michigan, including disillusioned Democrats like myself, who come from Democratic Party voting families and who happen to care about this State and this Country and do not agree with the far socialist left agenda of President Barack Obama. This does not mean, however, that we think that unions ought be outlawed and busted up.

Again, as I wrote before on here, this was nothing more than a pander to the extremist wing of the Republican Party and by doing this; Governor Snyder will pay a terrible price.

Local Story: Lizard bites man

Wait a second…. Lizard?  What the heck was Charles Johnson doing in Michigan?!?! Surprise

I kid….I kid… Batting Eyelashes

The story comes via Detroit Free Press:

Authorities say a Michigan man has been taken to a hospital after being bitten by his 4-foot-long pet lizard.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports emergency workers were called Sunday night to the home in Macomb County’s Lenox Township, about 35 miles northeast of Detroit.

Lenox Township Fire Chief Dennis Fouchia says it’s the first time he’s encountered a reptile bite in his career.

Here is the real funny part of the story, or at least I think it is funny:

The pet owner was expected to be treated and released. Additional details about the man and the circumstances surrounding the bite weren’t released.

Well, let’s see here; the Lizard was most likely hungry and really wanted something to eat and this guys hand — was, um…. Handy? Hee hee

Yeah, I know, I’m terrible. Sue me. Phbbbttt
