Jake Brewer, Husband of HotAir’com’s Mary Katherine Ham, dies in cycle accident

This one is just too awful for words. đŸ˜„

We lost our Jake yesterday, and I lost part of my heart and the father of my sweet babies. I don’t have to tell most of you how wonderful he was. It was self-evident. His life was his testimony, and it was powerful and tender and fierce, with an ever-present twinkle in the eye. I will miss him forever, even more than I can know right now. No arms can be her father’s, but my daughter is surrounded by her very favorite people and all the hugs she could imagine. This will change us, but with prayer and love and the strength that is their companion, we can hope our heartache is not in vain– that it will change us and the world in beautiful ways, just as he did. If that sounds too optimistic at this time, it’s because it is. But there was no thought too optimistic for Jake, so take it and run with it. I will strive and pray not to feel I was cheated of many years with him, but cherish the gift of the years I had. In a life where nothing is guaranteed, Jake made the absolute, ever-lovin’ most of his time with all of us. This is a family picture we took a couple weeks ago. It was taken because Jake, as always, was ready with a camera and his immense talent. All four members of our little, growing family are in it. I can never be without him because these babies are half him. They are made of some of the strongest, kindest stuff God had to offer this world. Please pray that he can see us and we’ll all make him proud. God, I love him. Psalm 34:18, Philippians 1:3

From The Washington Post: (H/T Memeorandum)

A day after a White House staffer died in a cycling accident while raising money for cancer, his wife released a heart-felt tribute to her husband on Instagram that recalled his optimism and selflessness.

“I don’t have to tell most of you how wonderful he was,” Mary Katharine Ham wrote about her late husband, Jake Thomas Brewer, 34. “It was self-evident. His life was his testimony, and it was powerful and tender and fierce, with an ever-present twinkle in the eye. I will miss him forever, even more than I can know right now.”

Brewer is listed on the White House Web site as a senior policy adviser in the the Office of the Chief Technology Officer. He was killed Saturday when his bicycle went out of control at a sharp curve on Old Frederick Road in Maryland. It crossed the double yellow line and collided with an oncoming vehicle, police said. Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the 2008 Honda Pilot was not injured, police said.

At the time, Brewer was participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day cycling event aimed at raising money for cancer-treatment programs.

Brewer’s mother told The Washington Post he was in the fundraising ride because of a close friend who was a cancer patient. He “lived life large and tended to live life for other people,” Lori Brewer Collins said.

Collins said the ride will continue. Her son was a man who could “make things happen,” she noted, and that was what “he would have wanted.”

On Sunday, news of Brewer’s death spread across Twitter and Facebook, where a wide circle of professional contacts and friends expressed their shock and shared memories of their friend and colleague.

He was referred to as the “epitome of a public servant.”

Ed Morrissey Writes:

Update: The family and friends of Jake Brewer, Mary Katharine’s husband, have launched a GoFundMe project to create an educational fund for their two children, Georgia and the one on the way.

Those of us who love Jake want to help ensure that Mary Katharine and the family have everything they need — now and (especially) in the future.  Please contribute to help provide for their childrens’ education as they grow up. These funds may also be used to advance ideas about which Jake was passionate.  Finally, Mary Katharine has asked that people consider donating to a cause very close to their hearts: The Travis Manion Foundation, which supports families of fallen US servicemen, at   www.TravisManion.org.

The goal of the education fund is $200,000, probably a bare minimum for college education for two students 16-18 years from now. Let’s push this higher than that. Mary Katharine faces some very difficult challenges for her children and herself without Jake, but we can help take worries over education off the table for her.

There are no words that I can even begin the write. God Bless Mary Katherine and her sweet babies. May the Lord Jesus Christ keep them in his mighty hand. 🙁

Beau Biden, VP Joe Biden’s Son dead at 46 of Brain Cancer

You know there is a time for politics and then, there is a time for real life. Joe Biden and his family are real people, with real families and this here, is really big loss.

The Friday morning music express – Special Memorial Edition – Presents: B.B. King

They say it comes in threes, first a family friend and now, this man.

My other favorite of his:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y8QxOjuYHg

B.B. King, the larger-than-life guitarist and singer who helped popularize electric blues and brought it to audiences for more than six decades, died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was 89. King, who was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 30 years ago, was hospitalized last month due to dehydration. Last October, he was forced to cancel eight tour dates for dehydration and exhaustion. His attorney, Brent Bryson, confirmed his death to the Associated Press. – Source: Rolling Stone

One thing to remember; if there had never been a B.B. King; there would have never been a Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page or none of the rest of them white people who were inspired by this man.

I think this tribute from NBC news is very well done:

His agent Barrie Marshall confirmed that he had died of an undisclosed illness.

Known for his gritty voice, Cocker began his singing career in the pubs and clubs of Sheffield in the 1960s before hitting the big time.

He was propelled to pop stardom when his version of The Beatles’ With A Little Help from My Friends reached number one.

Rockford Files Star James Garner dead at 86

I used to love watching that show’s reruns on TV.

LOS ANGELES –  Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” has died, police said. He was 86.

He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday.

Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press.

There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday

The Thursday night music express presents: Johnny Winter

It just hit me, I have heard some blues player had passed away and the name for some reason did not click.

Folks, we lost Johnny Winter.

There will probably be a lot of words written about this man and I don’t think that anything that I could say would be any better than what they’ve written.

Rest in peace Johnny say hello to Jimi for me.

This video below is as far as I’m concerned Johnny Winter’s best performance.

Condolences to Greg Gutfeld

I admit it, I sometimes like to watch Red Eye on Fox News. It’s a light-hearted break from the seriousness of rest of the news day. So, hearing that Greg lost his Mother is rather heartbreaking to hear. It is something that I will have to deal with myself one day. 🙁

My Thoughts and Prayers are with Greg and the rest of the Gutfeld Family.

Controversial Baptist Pastor Fred Phelps has died

Now unlike these people here, I will not make this a hate post.

The Story:

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW) Fred Phelps Sr., the former head of the Westboro Baptist Church, died late Wednesday night, according to a family member.

Phelps’ son, Timothy told 13 News that his father died just before midnight. Timothy Pheps works at the Shawnee Co. Jail.

Ironically, another son who is a member of the church, attorney Jonathan Phelps told us Thursday morning, “Pastor Phelps is doing just fine.” That, of course, could have been a spiritual reference.

Over the weekend, we learned that Phelps was reportedly “on the edge of death.”

In a statement on his Facebook page, Nathan Phelps, who has been estranged from his father for 30 years, said the senior Phelps was dying in hospice care in Topeka, Kan., and that he had been ex-communicated from his own church in August of 2013.

Fred Phelps was a man bent on delivering a message. He did it by becoming a lawyer and by becoming a minister.

Despite being disbarred in 1979, Fred Phelps pushed his name into the public eye, through the political arena in campaigns to vie for Senator and Governor. Phelps scored 30-percent of the vote in his 1992 senate bid.

In the early 90s, wearing sunglasses and a windbreaker, Fred Phelps was making a name for the family church by holding one of a barrage of picket signs, with the stark messages decrying homosexuality.

via Fred Phelps, former head of Westboro Baptist Church, died, family member says.

I previously wrote about this man and his status within his Church. It also appears that Phelps daughter has confirmed it as well.

Now, a few words on Fred Phelps:

Fred Phelps — No matter what you think about him and his religious beliefs; one thing cannot be denied and that is that Fred Phelps stood for what he believed in — to the point of being an annoying person. Yes, he created a monster. Yes, his beliefs were wrong according to mainstream Christian beliefs and yes, even among mainstream Baptist beliefs, even among Fundamentalists like myself. Yes, He did write and say, and even did things that would be construed as hateful to the rest of America.  However, at least he actually stood for something. Which is rare in these days of “go along to get along.”

These days you cannot even get a Christian or even a Baptist for that matter; especially a high-profile one to even admit that they actually believe that homosexuality is even a sin! Not to mention that, if someone sticks a microphone in front of a Christian and asks them if they think homosexuals are going to hell, you usually get mindless stammering and double-talk.

One can say what they will about Fred Phelps, but one thing that cannot be said about him and that is that he was some sort of a coward. I cannot begin to unwind or even begin to understand what made Fred Phelps tick. However, what I can tell you is this; Fred Phelps had a conviction that drove him to do what he did; even to the point of putting himself and his followers in harm’s way.

To Christians and Baptists alike, Fred Phelps should be remembered as someone who was actually bold enough to take a Biblical stand against homosexuality. Fred Phelps should be remembered as someone who did stand for and believe in the Authority and superiority of the King James Bible. Sure, he was a hardcore Calvinist. Sure, his theology was a bit off by most and even his actions were not considered in good taste. But, at least the man had the audacity to actually stand up and protest against the homosexual lifestyle as a vile, awful, sexual lifestyle that is roundly condemned in the Word of God; Old Testament and New Testament —- Something that of which this writer concurs

May Fred Phelps Rest in Peace and may God be with the Phelps Family this day in their time of loss.

Bartcop RIP

I’m not supposed to do this; but, screw it. This is MY blog and I will do what I damned well please. 😡 If you got a problem with it, that is just too damned bad.

A pioneer in the liberal blogging and political snark world has died. BartCop is who he was. Crooks and Liars has the story.

He leaves behind a wife and a mortgage. Click here to go help out.

This chorus is swirling in my head at the moment:

And when I’m gone, just carry on, don’t mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I’m looking down on you smiling
And I didn’t feel a thing, So baby don’t feel no pain
Just smile back

The Video:

As most who read here know; I was not always a Buchananite Conservative. I was, for what it is truly worth; a very skeptical left-of-center type. A Populist, of the historic sort. In 2007, I basically decided that voting Democratic Party was not for me any longer. Because of this, I do mourn, when a blogger dies. A voice in this great conversation is silenced. Maybe this video here, will explain what I mean:

I just wish politics was a bit more, like it is depicted in the video above, towards the end. 🙁

May he rest in peace. 🙁
