Sexual Abuse in the Baptist Church

This is something I know too well about.

From the Houston Chronicle:

Thirty-five years later, Debbie Vasquez’s voice trembled as she described her trauma to a group of Southern Baptist leaders.

She was 14, she said, when she was first molested by her pastor in Sanger, a tiny prairie town an hour north of Dallas. It was the first of many assaults that Vasquez said destroyed her teenage years and, at 18, left her pregnant by the Southern Baptist pastor, a married man more than a dozen years older.

In June 2008, she paid her way to Indianapolis, where she and others asked leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention and its 47,000 churches to track sexual predators and take action against congregations that harbored or concealed abusers. Vasquez, by then in her 40s, implored them to consider prevention policies like those adopted by faiths that include the Catholic Church.

“Listen to what God has to say,” she said, according to audio of the meeting, which she recorded. “… All that evil needs is for good to do nothing. … Please help me and others that will be hurt.”

Days later, Southern Baptist leaders rejected nearly every proposed reform.

The abusers haven’t stopped. They’ve hurt hundreds more.

This story is a personal for me and it does hit home quite a bit. When I was 9 years old; a man, who is now deceased, attempted to molest me in a Independent Baptist Church’s School. This school has been closed for many years. But, the mental scars from this, have never left me.

The Pastor of this now defunct Baptist Church ended up resigning in disgrace over an adultery scandal. What I will say to those conservatives who will dismiss this as an attack piece of Christians, is this: This story is very true and it is one that I know too well about. The abuse, the attempt to cover it up and put blame on the victim are all too real.

The sad part is that there is not much that the Southern Baptist Convention can do about it. As the bylaws of the SBC are designed as such, that the SBC is merely a Missionary Organization and does not control their local Churches. It is simply a missionary support clearing house, of sorts.

My prayers are with these victims and their families. I know the pain, I have been there and it is very terrible.

why do people do stupid stuff like this?

This right here, is too stupid for words.

go read the story about some stupid mother who let their young kid dress up as a Klansman.

That’s some seriously weapons-grade stupid right there. I don’t care what she was thinking, that’s just dumb no matter how you size it.

There some video with the link too. I didn’t watch it. I don’t have the stomach for it. I can’t handle watching stupidity in motion.

Some people shouldn’t be allowed to breed.

Family News: Dad is in the hospital

I just thought I would tell my readers that read here all the time. My Father is in the hospital with his hip. For a while now, my Father has had problems with his hip and his leg. The pain, up till last night; has been bad but manageable. Well, last night, Dad’s pain took a turn for the worse.

Dad had been up at a family camping and fishing trip with my uncle and cousins. For the all of that trip, my Dad was in horrible pain; and last night my Father took all he could take and told me to take him to the hospital. I ended up staying at the hospital all night long. Needless to say, I will quite rough. I got some sleep here for a few hours thankfully, but I will be tired by this evening, I can tell you that.

What I can tell you is this; so far, the Doctor’s have found no blockages in his legs at all. So, they are running a battery of more tests to see if it is a pinched nerve or what. I will tell you this; seeing my poor 67-year-old Father literally crying in pain and agony, rips my heart out. šŸ˜„ Mainly, because there is nothing that I can really do about the pain or even make it stop.

I know I was telling about my plans to go back to driving truck and how my little health issues delayed my getting back in the truck. Well, those are solved, for now at least. But, due to my Father’s issues, my plans on getting back into the truck are on hold for the time being. Until my Dad is pain-free and can get around like he could before; I will not be getting back into the truck. My motto is this: Family First, Career Second.

I will keep you posted on my Dad, I promise you all that. But now, I got to get to the hospital to see my Dad here shortly.

Prayers for my Dad, my Mom and for me.

Thanks,

-Patrick

I am all for children being protected at school…. But…..

I do believe that this is just a wee bit overboard. šŸ˜Æ

The story:

OWINGS, MD — The father of a middle schooler in Calvert County, Md. says his 11-year-old son was suspended for 10 days for merely talking about guns on the bus ride home.

Bruce Henkelman of Huntingtown says his son, a sixth grader at Northern Middle School in Owings, was talking with friends about the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre when the bus driver hauled him back to school to be questioned by the principal, Darrel Prioleau.

“The principal told me that with what happened at Sandy Hook if you say the word ‘gun’ in my school you are going to get suspended for 10 days,” Henkelman said in an interview with WMAL.com.

So what did the boy say?Ā  According to his father, he neither threatened nor bullied anyone.

“He said, I wish I had a gun to protect everyone. He wanted to defeat the bad guys. That’s the context of what he said,” Henkelman said. “He wanted to be the hero.”

The boy was questioned by the principal and a sheriff’s deputy, who also wanted to search the family home without a warrant, Henkelman said. “He started asking me questions about if I have firearms, and [the deputy said] he’s going to have to search my house.Ā  Search my house?Ā  I just wanted to know what happened.”

No search was performed, and the deputy left Henkelman’s home after the father answered questions in a four-page questionnaire issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

Look, nobody likes the idea of any kids being shot or guns being brought to school by kids, — period, end of story. But, merelyĀ talking about guns?!?! I tend to think that is just a little over the top. This is not nazi Germany or the communist soviet empire. We do have a right to freedom of speech.

Second of all, now don’t think that I am going to drone on like some Alex Jones reject about how this is some sort of conspiracy by the Obama Administration to take all of our guns or something silly like that, sorry, I don’t play that game here. Ā If anything at all, it is overly cautious school board, who is reacting to the recent shootings that have taken place over the past few months. I can see why they did it; but, I think the principal and teachers went a bit overboard.

There is nothing wrong with trying to be safe, but being paranoid can be very dangerous itself. Plus too, censoring kids speech just makes you look like fascists.

Oh and too, searching a house, without a warrant?!?!?Ā Ā I don’t think so! You have probable cause, and a warrant signed by a judge —- or you take your silly donut eating pig ass back to the station where you belong. šŸ˜”

This whole trampling on the rights of the American people for the so-called “greater good”, just pisses me the hell off. šŸ˜”

The Public School System is going to hell in a hand-basket, as always.

I have no words for this one folks, not one:

The Story:

Parents of children attending a Red Hook, New York, middle school are outraged after a recent anti-bullying presentation at Linden Avenue Middle School.

The workshop for 13 and 14-year-old girls focused on homosexuality and gender identity. They were also taught words such as “pansexual” and “genderqueer.”

Parents say their daughters were told to ask one another for a kiss and they say two girls were told to stand in front of the class and pretend they were lesbians on a date.

“She told me, ‘Mom we all get teased and picked on enough. Now I’m going to be called a lesbian because I had to ask another girl if I could kiss her,'” parent, Mandy Coon, told reporters.

Coon says parents were given no warning about the presentation and there was no opportunity to opt-out. Both the school principal and the district superintendent are defending the workshops and advising they will schedule more.

“The school is overstepping its bounds in not notifying parents first and giving us the choice,” another parent said. “I thought it was very inappropriate. That kind of instruction is best left up to the parents.”

“I was absolutely furious — really furious,” a parent who asked to remain anonymous told reporter Todd Starnes, “These are just kids. I’m dumbfounded that they found this class was appropriate.”

Superintendent Paul Finch told The Poughkeepsie Journal the presentation was “focused on improving culture, relationships, communication and self-perceptions.”

“We may require more notification to parents in the future,” Finch said

One simply word comes to mind: Unbelievable. One word folks: Home-School. I did it, and so should every parent today. Because the public school system has just become too evil to send your children to it anymore.

Rod Dreher puts in it all perspective

I don’t tear up much, but this one, had me really close. šŸ™ šŸ˜„

I just finished evening prayers with my three children. We prayed together in Lucas and Noraā€™s room, because they had been up late, me reading ā€œThe Hobbitā€ to them, and they were too sleepy and cranky to stand in the den in front of the icons, as we usually do. So prayer-time tonight was also tucking-in, kiss-me-goodnight-Daddy time.

It occurred to me as we stood there in the dim glow of the bedroom, the two little ones snug in their beds, that mothers and fathers in Newtown had tucked their little ones in last night, and had never imagined what the next day would bring.
