Great Article: The Confounding Southern Conservative

This article is a good one, go take a look!

In the South, political perspectives are as likely to be shaped by conversation between friends at the corner store as they are by The Washington Post or CNN. Most of us who take the time to vote make the decision based on the information at our disposal, cast our vote at the polls, and move on with our lives. The choice belongs to us, and we know our interests better than anyone else.

Or do we?

AP: Kerry says that the US will get spying right

What he means is, that next time the United States will not get caught spying.

The Story:

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is vowing that a review into NSA surveillance activities will ultimately result in the “right” balance between security and privacy and says outrage over alleged espionage and eavesdropping should not disrupt key trade talks between Europe and the United States.

Speaking in Warsaw after talks with Poland’s foreign minister, Kerry said Tuesday that Europeans and others have “legitimate” questions about the surveillance and that those would be answered in private diplomatic discussions.

“We need to understand that we are all in this together,” Kerry said. “We are all in the effort to be able to provide protection to our citizens. And we have to strike the right balance between protecting our citizens and obviously the privacy of all our citizens. That is a balance that we do try to strike.”

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said he had spoken with Kerry and “we have agreed on closer cooperation between our services on combatting common threats.”

Sikorski also said that trade issues should be separate from surveillance questions.

“These are two separate things, two separate orders. One belongs to Eurpoe itself, to the community,” he said. “The second one is rather national in character, it depends on individual states vis-a-vis the U.S.”

I agree with Patrick Buchanan; if I were Merkel and the rest of Europe, I would tell Obama to take a hike.

The Story Via CNN:

(CNN) — Police are responding to reports of a shooter at Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, New Jersey.
At least one gunman is said to have fired shots at security cameras, the state police said late Monday.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Eddie Kahmann, who works inside the mall, told CNN he heard 6 or 7 gunshots around 9:20 p.m. ET.
“There was just people running like crazy, so I quickly just closed my doors, ran to the back, turned off all the lights, music and everything, just to stay hidden,” he said.

Kahmann spoke from inside the mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the New York City area.
Ally Kozic, another mall employee, said she saw “someone dressed in all black, carrying a large gun walk past our store.”

She said she heard loud bangs about 10 minutes before her store was set to close for the night.

There is a large police presence at the mall, which was set to close at 9:30 p.m. ET. There are about 20 vehicles both marked and unmarked.

Eric Holder says New strategies needed…. How — convenient

Strange ending to a bit of a strange story.

Quote of the Day.

I find it pathetic that so few journalists in what we euphemistically call “the mainstream media” know this, care about it or abide by it.

This is one of many reasons America is losing its liberty.

The presidency, the Congress and the Supreme Court are rarely at odds with each other in any meaningful way. Government grows way beyond its constitutional limits daily despite the checks and balances that were ingeniously put in place by our founders to prevent that tendency.

And, worse yet, the media don’t expose this lawlessness. Rather, they cheerlead it.

When was the last time you heard, read or saw someone in the press – outside of WND, an institution specifically established to serve with conviction the central role of a free press in a free society – expose unconstitutional growth and power grabs by the federal government?

It’s hard to remember, isn’t it?

How did journalism lose its way?

Like most other cultural institutions in America, it was taken over, subverted, undermined and sabotaged by an ideology that simply doesn’t believe in constitutionally limited government, that simply doesn’t believe people are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that simply doesn’t believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that simply doesn’t believe in self-government.

You can seek national salvation in politics for the next 100 years, but it won’t come unless you comprehend the full picture of what went wrong in America – and how its enviable vision was betrayed.

Ghetto Wars: Detroit police seek answers in triple shooting

Things in Detroit are not what they used to be….

Here is proof:

On Friday, Taeler Shaltry wrote on her Facebook page: “Yah its finally Nov I have 2 more weeks until my expected due date I can’t wait! I’m really excited!!!!”

Two days later, the pregnant woman was killed when she was shot inside a Detroit home. The shooting also injured an elderly man and killed his adult grandson.

Doctors delivered Shaltry’s baby via emergency C-section, saving the infant. On Monday, the baby was in critical condition at Henry Ford Hospital.

Police continued Monday to investigate the shooting at 9206 Meyers on the city’s west side. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said the woman at the scene died from a gunshot wound to the head. It did not release her name pending identification by her family, but Sharon Shaltry said the victim is her daughter.

Detroit used to be a great place; now it’s a crime ridden cesspool. Who or what is to blame is the question. The answers are more than this blog posting would be able to fill.

It’s a sad thing to watch from 15 miles away. 🙁

Detroit News: DOJ will monitor Detroit, Hamtramck elections

To make sure that the black guy wins. Because we just cannot have the evil white man win the election! 🙄

Sickening… 😡

The Story:

Washington — The U.S. Justice Department said Monday it will monitor municipal elections Tuesday in Detroit and Hamtramck along with Orange County, N.Y., and Cuyahoga and Lorain counties in Ohio.

The department said monitoring is designed to ensure compliance with the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in the election process on the basis of race, color or membership in a minority language group.

During the 2012 elections, the federal government had about a half-dozen or so inspectors in Detroit monitoring polling stations and responding to complaints. The department will have a smaller presence for Tuesday’s election.

In Cuyahoga, Lorain and Orange Counties, the Department will assign federal observers from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management to monitor polling place activities based on court orders. The observers will watch and record activities during voting hours at polling locations in these jurisdictions and Civil Rights Division attorneys will coordinate the federal activities and maintain contact with local election officials.

In addition, Justice Department personnel will monitor polling place activities in Detroit and Hamtramck. Civil Rights Division attorneys will coordinate federal activities and maintain contact with local election officials. The department has previously monitored polling places in Hamtramck to ensure voters’ civil rights were upheld.

In 2000, Hamtramck agreed to revamp election procedures to ensure all voters were treated equally under an agreement reached with the Justice Department. The agreement resolved a government suit claiming violations of the Voting Rights Act aimed at Arab-American voters in the November 1999 election.

The agreement stems from an investigation that began after the Justice Department received complaints from Arab American voters in Hamtramck that their citizenship had been challenged by private citizens during the November 1999 general election. “As a result of those challenges, Arab American voters and other dark-skinned voters, such as Bengali-Americans, were required by pollworkers to take a citizenship oath prior to being permitted to vote. This requirement was not imposed on white voters,” the Justice Department said.

Each year, the department deploys federal observers to monitor elections across the country. To file complaints about discriminatory voting practices, including acts of harassment or intimidation, voters may call the Voting Section of the department’s Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931.
