Quote of the Day

Academics revere Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Richard Cobden.

But none of them ever built a great nation. Patriots look to Alexander Hamilton and those post-Civil War Republicans who built the greatest national industrial powerhouse the world had ever seen.

Indeed, what great nation did free trade ever build?

As father of a united Germany, Chancellor Bismarck said, when he decided to build Germany on the American and not the British model, “I see that those countries which possess protection are prospering, and that those countries which possess free trade are decaying.”

So it is true today. Unfortunately, it is America, now wedded to the fatal dogma of free trade, that is decaying. – Source

Pope smacks Trump, Trump Smacks Back

I have to admit, Trump’s comeback was nothing like I would have said!

The story via NYT:

Video:

The Story:

ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRLINER — Inserting himself into the Republican presidential race, Pope Francis on Wednesday suggested that Donald J. Trump “is not Christian” because of the harshness of his campaign promises to deport more immigrants and force Mexico to pay for a wall along the border.

“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said when a reporter asked him about Mr. Trump on the papal airliner as he returned to Rome after his six-day visit to Mexico.

The pope’s remarks came during a wide-ranging, midair news conference in which he also waded into the question of whether the Roman Catholic Church should grant an exception to its prohibitions on abortion and birth control in regions where the Zika virus is causing a public health emergency, including in much of Catholic-dominated Latin America.

Of course, Donald Trump was having none of this and of course, he replied. This is from Trump’s official campaign website:

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.

The Mexican government and its leadership has made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States, both on trade and at the border, and they understand I am totally wise to them. The Pope only heard one side of the story – he didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. He doesn’t see how Mexican leadership is outsmarting President Obama and our leadership in every aspect of negotiation.

For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.

A very classy and political response, and not nearly half of what I would have said to the so-called “Pope”! Because, you see, I would have brought up in the inquisitions; which resulted in the murdering of many of my Baptist forefathers.

Racism being directed at Nikki Haley?

This is nasty.

National Review observes:

With Nikki Haley endorsing Marco Rubio, she’s getting criticized, as she should expect.

The objection to Haley in the responses are less carefully worded than Coulter.

Here’s what they are talking about:

The responses are quite telling.

NRO goes on:

Notice how frequently “she’s not one of us” or “she’s not from around here” gets thrown at Nikki Haley, usually some subtext of “she’s not American” or “she’s not really American” or “she’s not really Christian.” In the final weekend before the primary in 2010, David Brody of CBN ran a report that suggested Haley de-emphasized her Sikh heritage and over-emphasizing her Christian faith. Around that time, a longtime Republican state senator called Haley a “raghead.” Back in 2011, “Democrats raised questions about Haley’s use of ‘Nikki’ as her first name and whether she had changed her first name legally from her birth name.” Back in 2013, South Carolina Democratic Chairman Dick Harpootlian pledged his party’s gubernatorial nominee would send “Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from.” Back in June, Ann Coulter called Haley “an immigrant [who] does not understand America’s history.” Haley was born in Bamberg, South Carolina. In mid-January, after a Coulter Tweet urging Donald Trump to deport Haley, the hashtag “#DeportNikkiHaley” caught on. Quite the message: it doesn’t matter if you’re born in Bamberg, go to Clemson, live in South Carolina your whole life, build a business, sit on the board of your church, donate $130,000 to charity in one year, have a husband in the Army National Guard who serves in Afghanistan for a year… if you dare disagree with someone politically or endorse the wrong guy, some people will still throw “she’s not one of us” crap around.

It is quite obvious to me, that both the Republican and Democratic Parties have a long ways to go, before the racism in both of those parties is overcome. Then again, Barry Goldwater did once say that you cannot legislate morality. Neither can you force anyone to change their minds, Joseph McCarthy tried it and failed.

A decent defense of Donald Trump’s comments about Bush and 9/11

I have had issues with this woman in the past and I don’t wish to rehash them. But, when she is right — she is right.

Check out Debbie Schlussel’s take down of the right and Bush: Donald Trump, George W. Bush & 9/11: Why Trump is Right But Doesn’t Know What He’s Talking About

It is a very interesting read. 😯

Updated to Add: Yes, I know, there are people on the right, who loathe this woman. My question is, Why? Because she actually tells the truth about the Republican Party and other such stuff? Maybe is her ethnic heritage? Either way, when she is right, she is right and she gets kudos from me. End of story. 🙂

I like Donald Trump, but this is just dumb

I said as such in my rant that I shot last night.

During a Tuesday interview with talk show host Michael Savage, Donald Trump seemed to lend some credence to the conspiracy theories that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was murdered, saying it was “pretty unusual” they found a pillow on his face.“Donald, I need to come back to the topic we’ve all been screaming about here, which is Scalia, was he murdered,” Savage said. “I know it’s pretty brutal to say that, and I’m not wanting to drag you into this, but this is going to be bigger and bigger and bigger.”“I went on the air and said we need the equivalent of a Warren Commission, we need an immediate autopsy before the body is disposed of. What do you think of that?” Savage asked.

Trump avoided giving a straight answer, saying he didn’t know enough. “Well I just heard today… you know I just landed and I’m hearing it’s a big topic.”“But they say they found a pillow on his face, which is a pretty unusual place to find a pillow,” Trump said. “I can’t tell you– I can’t give you an answer.” – Source: Trump: ‘Pretty Unusual’ Scalia Was Found With ‘Pillow on His Face’ | Mediaite

I have said on here that I like Donald Trump and I would vote for him, if he made the General Election and I would vote for him, if he is still in the primary, by the time it gets to Michigan. However, I find this here to be incredibly stupid of him to enter into this sort of nonsense.

Look, the man is dead, okay? Give his family a break. Stop with the stupid. It does nothing for the conservative cause to repeat Alex Jones talking points. 😡

Why I have ads on my site and why I ask for donations

This is a continuation of my previous posting.

Nobody likes Ads, especially the annoying popup ones. Least of all me!

Well, I put them on here for one simple reason….

*Cut the sob story music*

I have not worked a “normal job” since 2006. There is a huge story behind it that dates back to 2003. It is long, rambling and if not told the right way, makes me sound like I am whining; which I am not at all.

Short and sweet version: I attempted a career change back in 2003, that ended up blowing up in my face. I was able, with the state’s help in getting my class A CDL license. (That’s a license to drive a semi truck, for those who don’t know.) Well, after I got it, I made some mistakes along the way, that effectively rendered me out of the driver’s seat. Drinking was not involved at all. What happened was, instead of being smart and getting a job with a big trucking company. I decided that I wanted to stay near home; mainly, because I am an only child and my parents needed the help. Which is more so now, than it was back then.

Well, I ended up going with a small trucking company and ended up making a rookie mistake and ended up with 2 points on my license in 2004. Basically, me and a city light pole got into a fight and the pole; and by proxy, me — lost. 🙁 Thankfully, nobody was hurt and there was no damage was done to the trailer or truck. The light pole? Not so much. Snapped that puppy off at the ground.

Well, basically it meant this: 2 points on license = being labeled high risk by other trucking companies = not being to find a job in the field I trained for.

At the point, I got pissed and said, “screw it!” and I wanted to find something, but because Michigan’s economy was in the pooper; there was nothing around here, at least nothing I was qualified for. 🙁  Honestly, if it were not for my parents, I would be living under a viaduct somewhere.

Speed ahead to 2006…..

I had just left a Church that I attended for a while, a independent Baptist Church no less. I had been royally stabbed in the back by a so-called “Pastor” there. (and believe me, I use that term about him very, very, very loosely. He was no “Pastor”, he was a hireling hack, who had zero business being in the pulpit.)

I had seen stuff about blogs, but I blew it off as kiddie stuff, like MySpace and that sort of a thing. This was until I discovered political blogs. My eyes lit up and my wheels started turning in my head. Now, keep in mind, at that time; I was still on, what I like to call, “the skeptical left”. I was not a Bush fan at all; I still am not. By 2006, I was convinced that the Iraq war, which I initially supported, was a huge judgement error on the President’s part, at the time. I also was not a fan of the Republicans either, I admired Reagan very much. But, I thought Bush was an idiot.

You have to understand me. I grew up in Southwest Detroit, my Father is a retired General Motors worker. Yes, that means that the UAW is a big part of my family. Having said that, there is another side to me. As it is spelled out elsewhere on my blog here, I am a Christian, I have been for 35 years now. (Which makes me feel so old! 😥 ) Needless to say, Church was a big part of my life, when I was younger. I went to Christian Schools all my life. The “God & Country” movement was something that I was a big part of in the 1980’s.

To put a label on it, I was what you would call a conservative Democrat or a “blue dog” Democrat. I was not too big on the Republicans and because of my working class upbringing, I felt a connection with the Democratic Party. I didn’t agree with them on Abortion or the guy stuff. But, I felt that Democrats were more in tune with the concerns of my family and more notably — Me. My parents or myself, we never donated any that party. We just voted that way.

Now back to 2006, I was becoming more and more angry at Bush, the Iraq War deaths were piling up like cord wood and I decided to do something I had not done since I was like in the 7’th or 8’th grade —- I decided to start writing again. I had not done it in years, I just never felt the need to. But, I felt it was time again.

And so, in 2006, I went to blogspot.com and registered a blog. It was called The Populist. The blog was hacked by either Chinese hackers or by some neoconservatives who didn’t like me and my political stance. I have an idea, who was behind it. But, I cannot prove it. So, the point is moot.

…and that was 10 years ago. Needless to say, my political stance has changed…. quite a bit. In 2007, My blog was hacked, by that time — my opinion of the Democrats had dropped to a all-time low. The democrats never stopped the Iraq War. They talked a mean game, but they did nothing to stop it. They were using it as a wedge issue against Bush. I felt that to be hypocritical. I also felt that Hillary was being ridiculous, when it came to the primaries. I already had a good deal of disdain for her husband; considering what happened in Waco in the mid-90’s. This is why I never was on board with the Democrats. I remember when the Clinton-Monica scandal was happening, I remember thinking, “Why doesn’t he just resign?” Bill Clinton had besmirched the White House and America.

This was when I started Political Byline. I ran it for 9 years. First as a Centrist, and ever so slowly, I began to lean to the right. Somewhere in there, I discovered Pat Buchanan. I had found my political ally. I still read his columns faithfully. He is as close to Reagan as we’ll ever get today. In 2011, after Obama ordered the draw down of troops in Iraq. I decided to put that blog in inactive status and shut down for a while. It lasted about 5 weeks.

I went back to blogspot and created another blog —  and started over. Thoughts and Rantings and the domain I chose, was something I pulled outta my… behind?

Later, I was able to pony some money together and bought a domain and was able to secure some cheap hosting. I later moved to a better host that let me pay yearly.

…and here I am, 10 years later. Still writing about the left, that I was once a part of. Pointing out the obvious and offering a different idea. I’m not rich doing it. But, I am having a good time. 🙂

Your comments are welcomed. 🙂

Oh Wonderful: Donald Trump gets praised by…….Code Pink

I have to admit, this made me chortle a bit… 😆

Via The Hill:

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is being praised by Code Pink, a group working to end U.S. wars and militarism that has protested the Iraq War.

Trump garnered support from the organization during the GOP debate Saturday night when he called the Iraq War a mistake and accused the George W. Bush administration of lying before the invasion.

“Obviously the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake,” Trump said during the debate.

“George Bush made a mistake,” the billionaire continued. “Obviously we can make mistakes, but that one was a beauty.”

Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin said in an email to the Huffington Post that she “loved” the debate.

“It felt surreal to hear Donald Trump, the leading Republican contender for President, saying what we at CODEPINK have been shouting to the winds for 14 years now: that Bush and his cronies lied about WMDs, that the Iraq war was catastrophic, and that Bush never ‘kept us safe’ because 9/11 happened on his watch.”

This ought to make Donald Trump real popular down in South Carolina, where basically George W. Bush is still basically like a God. 🙄 The reaction from the crowd at the South Carolina debate, when Trump basically blamed 9/11 on Bush, should give you an idea of how Trump is going to do in that primary.

But….code pink?!?! Trump many as well have gotten an endorsement from the Communist Party of America! Needless to say, the upcoming polls ought to be really interesting. 😯
