On the terrorist attack in Boston

Yes, I happen to know about THIS HERE.

I have followed the blog coverage and roundup.

I do not think that we had it coming, that would be morbid. However, I will simply say this; seeing that we are doing this HERE and starting unconstitutional wars, occupying foreign lands, which is Wilsonian foreign policy —– what can we, as a Nation, honestly expect?

Just my thoughts.

Oh yeah, it’s a nightmare alright

I have one thing to say about this below — Welcome to my world.

The Story:

Close your eyes and picture the scariest thing you can think of. Maybe it’s a giant spider or a giant Stay Puft marshmallow man or something that’s not even giant at all. Well, whatever it is, I guarantee it’s not nearly as scary as the real scariest thing in the world. That’s long-term unemployment.

There are two labor markets nowadays. There’s the market for people who have been out of work for less than six months, and the market for people who have been out of work longer. The former is working pretty normally, and the latter is horribly dysfunctional. That was the conclusion of recent research I highlighted a few months ago by Rand Ghayad, a visiting scholar at the Boston Fed and a PhD candidate in economics at Northeastern University, and William Dickens, a professor of economics at Northeastern University, that looked at Beveridge curves for different ages, industries, and education levels to see who the recovery is leaving behind.

via The Terrifying Reality of Long-Term Unemployment – Matthew O’Brien – The Atlantic.

I have been unemployed for 8 solid years. Now, some of that, is my fault. I got into some of that HERE, when I wrote about my job hunting.  But, some of it; is simply the bad economy here in Michigan and as of 2008; the entire Country.

One part that I quibble with on this piece, is this here:

It’s time for the government to start hiring the long-term unemployed. Or, at the least, start giving employers tax incentives to hire the long-term unemployed. The worst possible outcome for all of us is if the long-term unemployed become unemployable. That would permanently reduce our productive capacity.

We can do better, and we need to start doing so now. We can’t afford long-term thinking in either the short or the long-term.

Okay, let me break this down here:

  1. Our Government is broke. They hardly can afford the people that they have now! They are having to cut hours and staff to stay afloat. So, that is out.
  2. As for the tax incentives; I just do not think that incentives would even remotely work. What the employers would do, is hire the people; declare it on their taxes and then turn around and let the people or fire them for silly reasons.

What will work is a strongly worded piece of legislation that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate against those, who have been unemployed longer than six months and make damned sure the law is enforced to the hilt. With fines and loss of business license being the penalties for the infraction.

Let me clear here; I am not in favor of big Government statism at all; however, there are times, when, because of the actions of crony capitalists, Government has to take action to protect the American people, namely long-term unemployed Americans, like me — from being discriminated against, for the simple crime of not being able to find a job.  My reasons for not being able to get a job in the field that I trained in are explained here.  Yes, I whacked a pole, trying to make a turn out of a parking lot; that was in 2003. I should have been able to find work with a trucking company locally or at least regionally. I have not, why? Because no one locally or regionally is hiring, outside a big company around here, which is notorious for screwing its employees.

Again, I agree with what this man is saying is this article; I simply just do not believe his solutions are the right ones.

This is just damned wrong

As much as I know that 9/11 was a horrible thing, as much as I know that terrorism is a terrible thing, as much as I distrust the Muslims and their goddamned backward religion —– I just cannot accept what I just read HERE as being normal day operations here in America.

I am extremely shocked and dismayed that more libertarian-minded Conservatives are not shouting from rooftops about this as well. They speak of liberty; but yet, they allow this sort of shit to happen?!?! Are they mad? Have the Neoconservatives frightened them into silence?

Here’s his info via NYT and NPR.

Again, something is wrong, damned wrong with a Nation, who allows this to continue. 😡

I sure hope that Henry Hager has more than one bathroom in that house

Jenna Bush Hager – New happy Mom. (Image via AP)

Because between Mom and Mila, Dad has lost that main one.  Also too, Henry, remember what I said before; you’re just the donor dude. Remember that. 😉

Former President George W. Bush is now a grandfather.

Bush’s daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, had her first child — a girl named Mila — on Saturday.

“Laura and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our grandchild, Margaret Laura ‘Mila’ Hager,” the former president said in a statement on Sunday. “Mila, daughter of Jenna and Henry Hager, is named for her grandmothers. She was born last night, April 13, at 8:43 p.m. in New York City. We met our beautiful granddaughter today.”

Either way, I am happy for them both. I hope that Mom and Mila continue to do well; and that they have a wonderful time together. I also pray that Henry does not lose too much of his hair! 😀

Rick Santorum is in the hospital

I admit it, I was never a big fan of the guy; mainly, because of his desire to “Christianize” America. But, I do not wish the man any ill health or anything.

So, I was sort of dismayed to hear about this here:

One-time GOP presidential contender and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) is cancelling a trip to Iowa after being hospitalized for an illness.

“While traveling in South Carolina on Saturday, Rick Santorum became ill and was admitted to the hospital for a gastrointestinal illness and dehydration,” said Virginia Davis, spokesperson for Patriot Voices, Santorum’s political action committee, in a statement.

“He is feeling better today but remains in the hospital and is unable to travel to Iowa on Monday, April 15 for previously scheduled events.  He is expected to resume a full schedule later this week and looks forward to returning to Iowa soon,” she added.

If I were betting man, I would be willing to bet a shining one dollar bill that it is diverticulitis. Let me tell you, as someone who’s “been there and did that,” more than once; that stuff hurts and I mean bad. 🙁 For those who do not know; a bad case of diverticulitis, will take the strongest, fire breathing, steel bending, manliest man and turn him into a sobbing baby in the fetal position with little or no effort at all.

The only thing that helps, is to do nothing for five to seven days, but drink clear liquid. No soda, no juice,  no food. Nothing — but water. It lets that digestive system heal up.  You can after that, starting really slow; begin drinking fizzy stuff, and if you keep that down, progress very, very slowly; and eventually, you will heal.

My best to him and I hope he heals up, feels better and gets his sorry butt beat in the election again! 😀 😉 😛 🙂

Touching Video: The Final Ride Home

Many of my non-trucking friends might not understand why I like this video. But, trucking is a culture, unto it’s own. It’s the last free American Spirit. Trucking runs in families; this is an example of that. God Bless this man and his daddy.

Caption reads:

The FRC hollers and the GOP Jumps

Like idiots.

The Holler by the FRC:

In a letter representing tens of millions of supporters, we warned that it would be a “historic mistake” to “dismantle this coalition by marginalizing social conservatives.” The Republican Party has flourished, our groups’ write, “because it is truly a reflection–not of Washington, D.C.–but of the values of Americans across this great country.” And while the Republican platform (which FRC Action helped draft) is strongly and unapologetically pro-marriage, those values “have not prevented [the involvement of homosexuals] through GOProud or Log Cabin Republicans.” “It’s one thing to say the Party is open to all. It’s quite another to suggest that the Party should retreat in midstream from their own platform.”

[…]

Until the RNC and the other national Republican organizations grow a backbone and start defending core principles, don’t give them a dime of your hard-earned money. If you want to invest in the political process, and I encourage you to do so, give directly to candidates who reflect your values and organizations you trust–like FRC Action. At least then you can relax, knowing that your money will be spent advancing faith, family, and freedom!

The Jump by the GOP:

Los Angeles (CNN) – The Republican National Committee approved two resolutions Friday re-affirming the party’s position on marriage, a move designed to mollify social conservatives angry at GOP leaders who have suggested Republicans tone down their rhetoric in opposition of same -sex marriage in order to appeal to younger voters.

The resolutions were approved by a voice vote as a larger package of 12 resolutions including one honoring former Texas Rep. Ron Paul. There was no opposition to passing all 12 resolutions en bloc.

“Let me make crystal clear something I’ve said since January,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a speech before the vote on the resolutions. “While we have to do things differently, there’s one thing that can’t and won’t change: our principles. There are some that would like us to abandon them, but as long as I’m Chairman, we’ll stay true to them. Some would have us turn into Democrats-lite, but I refuse.”

While Priebus emphasized he would “never suggest we should waiver on our principles,” he also noted that he “won’t tell anyone they can’t be a part of this party.”

So much for the Republican Party letting the Social Conservatives walk. 🙄

I hope the Republican Party is prepared to lose the 2014 and 2016 elections; because that is what is going to happen.

Jonathan Winters RIP

He was one of the best.

The Story via NYT:

Jonathan Winters, the rubber-faced comedian whose unscripted flights of fancy inspired a generation of improvisational comics, and who kept television audiences in stitches with Main Street characters like Maude Frickert, a sweet-seeming grandmother with a barbed tongue and a roving eye, died on Thursday at his home in Montecito, Calif. He was 87.

His death was announced on his Web site, JonathanWinters.com.

Mr. Winters, a rotund man whose face had a melancholy basset-hound expression in repose, burst onto the comedy scene in the late 1950s and instantly made his mark as one of the funniest, least definable comics in a rising generation that included Mort Sahl, Shelley Berman and Bob Newhart.

Mr. Winters was at his best when winging it, confounding television hosts and luckless straight men with his rapid-fire delivery of bizarre observations uttered by characters like Elwood P. Suggins, a Midwestern Everyman, or one-off creations like the woodland sprite who bounded onto Jack Paar’s late-night show and simperingly proclaimed: “I’m the voice of spring. I bring you little goodies from the forest.”

A one-man sketch factory, Mr. Winters could re-enact Hollywood movies, complete with sound effects, or create sublime comic nonsense with simple props like a pen-and-pencil set.

May he rest in peace.

This is why our Colleges and Universities are Liberal

Remember I just wrote, that something was horribly wrong with this Country? Well, here is an example of what I am talking about.

Because of crap like this right here: (via Compusreform.org)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nVyPjQki_3M\

The Story via CampusReform.org:

A professor at the University of Southern California (USC) appears to have used a fall semester 2012 political science class to deliver sustained and angered attacks on Republicans, who he characterized as old, white, racist, and “losers.”

In a 15 min. video secretly captured by USC student Tyler Talgo, political science Professor Darry Sragow also appears to endorse the illegal suppression of Republican votes.

“You lose their information on the election in the mail,” he suggested when a student asked him how to keep Republicans from voting. “I mean there is lots of ways to do it [SIC].”

A teaching assistant (TA), who also appeared to work for the university, then seemed to suggest Black Panthers could be placed at polling stations to intimidate Republican voters.

Rather than rebuking the TA, Sragow appeared to confirm the suggestion.

“Yeah, yeah,” he said. “You can do that.”

Neither a spokesperson for USC, or professor Sragow, responded to multiple requests from Campus Reform seeking comment.

While endorsing illegal techniques Sragow also accused the GOP of suppressing Democratic votes by supporting laws requiring voter I.D.

“Republicans are trying to prevent people of color and people of lower income from voting by requiring voter I.D.” he said.

This why our colleges all across America are full of liberal progressive students; because of the indoctrination of the kids. This idiot went on:

The recording also captures Sragow making dozens of other derogatory remarks about Republicans and Republican politicians.

For example he leveled personal attacks at both former-Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann Romney.

“Romney tends to make shit up,” he said.

“[A]nn Romney to me looks like she’s out of 1955 and the women who are going to have to decide the race are women who have to work for a living. … she looks like she is hanging out at the country club in Mad Men,” he added.

He also characterized California Republicans in particular as “losers” and stupid and racist.

“California Republicans I just showed you are 30 percent registration in this state because they are really stupid and racist,” he said.” [T]he republican party in California as I say all the time on the record in print on the radio and on tv is the last vestige of angry old white people.”

“Old white guys are stubborn sons of bitches,” he added.

Max Horkheimer  and Theodor Adorno‘s dreams have been realized. Again, this was the fruits of their labors many years ago.
