(Reuters) – President Barack Obama will announce on Friday a major overhaul of a controversial National Security Agency program that collects vast amounts of basic telephone call data on foreigners and Americans, a senior Obama administration official said.
In an 11 a.m. (1600 GMT) speech at the Justice Department, Obama will say he is ordering a transition that will significantly change the handling of what is known as the telephone “metadata” program from the way the NSA currently handles it.
Obama’s move is aimed at restoring Americans’ confidence in U.S. intelligence practices and caps months of reviews by the White House in the wake of damaging disclosures about U.S. surveillance tactics from former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden
This is the part of President Obama’s job that I would not do, even if they offered me a million dollars a day to do it. Doing the balancing act between national security and privacy is not an easy task. On one hand, you have the people who want to protect America from terrorist attacks; on the other, you have those who want to keep the privacy of Americans safe.
The article goes on to say what Obama has in store. I highly recommend that you go read it. Because needless to say; this is going to make many people, on both sides of the argument, very unhappy.
DENVER — A former Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for punching a teenager in the face while the teen was strapped to a gurney, District Attorney Dave Young’s office announced.
David Morrow, 30, was convicted in August of two counts of assault and one count of child abuse in the June 12, 2011, incident.
Morrow had responded to a disturbance call at 8790 Welby Road in Adams County. According to court records and evidence presented during the trial, the 15-year-old boy, who appeared highly intoxicated, was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to the hospital because parent contact information could not be obtained from him.
The ambulance attendant had restrained the juvenile’s hands and feet because of his verbally combative behavior. Morrow struck the juvenile on the face with a closed fist while the teen was restrained on the ambulance gurney.
Serves him right, you abuse your badge; you should go to jail. Just that simple. It’s too bad that the pigs who killed Kelly Thomas did not get the same sentence.
Jimmy LaSalvia is a lifelong conservative activist. He likes low taxes and limited government and refers to the political party that disagrees with these views as the “Democrat” Party. He’s also gay and for years has been leading the fight for a place in the Republican Party for fellow gay conservatives; LaSalvia even started an advocacy group called GOProud when he found the Log Cabin Republicans to be far too liberal. But, on Monday, LaSalvia finally threw in the towel and changed his registration to be an independent. On his blog, he wrote “So, now I feel huge sense of freedom. I am an independent conservative. (That sounds much better than ‘gay Republican.’)”
In an interview with The Daily Beast, LaSalvia explained why he left the GOP. “I came to the realization that the leadership of the Republican Party just doesn’t share my principles and my values” said the conservative activist. “I am a limited government conservative and they’re big government people. I do not tolerate bigotry in any form and they do. So I came to realize that they are wrong and I can’t continue to defend them or to let them stain my reputation any longer.”
Here is the problem with the above, homosexualiy according to the Word of God; that being the Holy Bible —- which is, in my belief system is the King James Bible — is a sin and an abomination to the Lord.

These beliefs are the core doctrines of Christianity. The Word of God. There is no tolerance, there is no looking away from that, it is the Word of God; period, end of discussion.
But yet, this so-called queer “Conservative” Jimmy LaSalvia says that I am bigoted, because I choose to believe this? That, in itself, is intolerance. Jimmy says that we Christians are bigoted, because we refuse to back away from what the Bible says and endorse this idiotic, Satanic idea that homosexuality is just normal. Sorry, Jimmy. But, you are simply guilty of what you accuse we Christians of being — Intolerant.
True Conservatism, tolerates other people’s opinions and does not wish to expel them from any sort of a political group. Ronald Reagan knew the truth and that truth is that Conservatism to work, required a three-legged stool. That stool was a three-legged stool, consisting of religious conservatives, national security conservatives, and economic/libertarian conservatives. Without one of these that stool would collapse under its own weight.
Another way of putting it is this: You try and expel social Conservatives or properly named, Conservative Christians out of the GOP? You will never win another election ever again. Conservative Christians; the larger group evangelical and the smaller group, Fundamentalists like myself; represent the biggest voting bloc in the GOP. If we go, so do your votes. You cannot win elections simply upon the idea of promoting only fiscal conservatism and defense. It simply will not work. It was tried in 1964 with Berry Goldwater and the GOP lost and I mean badly. The Christians HATED Berry Goldwater! In the end there was an ill fated attempt to mend fences with them; but it was too little too late.
So, there are few things that I would wish of Jimmy LaSalvia:
I wish that he would truly accept Christ and turn his back on that sodomite lifestyle.
I wish that would learn a bit of tolerance for those whom he disagrees with
or at least, I wish we would stop lying to people and telling them that he is some sort of a Conservative. Because when you get down to the reality of the situation, it is impossible for homosexuals to be Conservatives or even Christians. Just be real and tell everyone that you are liberal and go to the Democratic Party where you truly belong.
An Orange County jury Monday found two former Fullerton police officers accused of killing a schizophrenic homeless man, Kelly Thomas, not guilty.
Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli were charged with striking Kelly Thomas with a baton and a stun gun in a beating that left him comatose. He died five days later.
[Updated at 4:25 p.m.: Ramos, Cicinelli and their families were swiftly escorted out of the courtroom.
Ron Thomas, Kelly Thomas’ father, said he was stunned by the verdict, saying he’d never seen such a miscarriage of justice.
Thomas also suggested that federal authorities should look into the case.
Ramos’ attorney, John Barnett, told reporters: “These peace officers were doing their jobs…they did what they were trained to do.”

Orange County Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas said prosecutors would not pursue charges against a third Fullerton officer accused in the Thomas case. That officer’s trial was pending.
“I don’t intend to proceed with another trial when the two officers here were acquitted,” he told reporters.
The jury took less than a full day of deliberation to reach the not-guilty verdicts.
Proving that if you have the right kind of money and you happen to be a protected minority,, you can pretty much get away with anything. I’d get angry about it; but all the anger in the world, would not bring back Kelly Thomas.
Update: Ed Brayton agrees. Mr. Brayton and I might not agree on Religion. But, when it comes to Civil liberties, Brayton is right on point. Now, if we could just get him to leave the Christians alone. 😉

A Facebook friend noted today, “I can’t keep up with your blog posts!”
Don’t get used to it; I slacked off in 2013 because real life kept me busy. I probably suffered from some blogger burnout, too. Like a lot of conservative bloggers, I got real disheartened after the last presidential election. Between the two, I didn’t do a lot of relevant blogging last year.
When you have to strain to even put up a blog posting and you find yourself trashing posts in Draft, because you just don’t like what you are writing; you are suffering from burnout. I’m there now. It just ain’t fun anymore; and really has not been since around 2008.
One of the characteristics of having A.D.H.D. is that we bore terribly easy. I do this very much so. Another thing is that I utterly hate having to repeat myself over and over. Once I write something about politics, Democrats and Obama; I have wrote it and I hate having to rehash things that I have already written about.
I think another thing too, for me anyhow; is that back in the day,( 2006 till 2008) as much as I hate that term — is that when I was on the “skeptical left of center” or as I like to call it; a Bush critic —- things were different. I had a motivation. I was criticising Bush. For me, it really was not from a partisan perspective. But, more from a reality perspective. I never considered myself a hardcore leftist at all. I just disagreed with what Bush was doing with Iraq.
Now that Bush is gone. I find myself struggling to write about anything. Yeah, I’ve written my share of stuff about Obama. Yes, socialism sucks. Yes, big government sucks. Yes Democrats are stupid. Blah, Blah, blah… I’ve said till I am blue in the face. I did my share of defending America from what I perceived as evil and anti-American. However, there comes a point when you begin to realize that no one is really listening to what you are writing; and I am NOT the type to write what people want to hear. I tried that crap on my old blog for a bit; and I was freaking miserable.
Oh, sure, I got hits and eyeballs on the blog. But it was not me. It was me writing in another style or someone else’s voice. I quit that quickly, and vowed never to do that crap, ever again. I want people to know what I think, not what some Republican or ultra-conservative wants to hear.
There are some people who will write what they think people want to hear. I have a word for those kind of people — sell outs. I have never, nor will I ever sell my soul out to anyone for the price of getting seen anywhere.
I guess what I am trying to say here is that I am not interested in being a part of the echo chamber at all. I did that for a short time, when I was blogging. But, on the right; the echo chamber is quite partisan and I am just not into partisan politics at all. Some people dig that sort of a thing; but not me. Do not get me wrong here; I disagree with direction of the Democrats at the moment. But, I really do have issues with the Republicans and some of the so-called Conservatives as well. The good part is, I have company. I am not the only one who feels the way that I do.
I also tend to be quite cynical as well — with both parties. This might be seen as bad; but I believe a cynical mistrust of Government is good thing. No matter who or what party is in power.
