Interesting Reading: A Primer on Christian Dominionism

As I have written on here many times, I am opposed to Christian Dominionist movement, of which Ted Cruz is a part of.

Well, someone finally has did a write up on the movement. Ronnie Herne over at Newswithviews.com writes about the movement:

“Zealous men force their way in.” The Secret Kingdom by Pat Robertson (p. 82)

Dominionism. What is it? Where does it come from? And most importantly, where is it headed?

Dominionism simply means “dominance.” In our parlance here it means Christian dominance. The concept is as old as recorded history. It’s a desire to take over the world and remake it in your own image.

Dominionism here in the U.S. has been seriously percolating since the 70s or very early 80s. Many variants exist in the belief structures but there is only one goal: creating the earthly Kingdom of God. It matters not that Christ said, “My kingdom is not of this world.” The Dominionists forge ahead. They believe that in Genesis I:26-28 God gave man dominion over the earth. But when man fell from Grace many dominionists believe that Satan took over dominion of the earth.

They believe that Almighty God Himself cannot get the earth back unless the Dominionists first create a Christian government over all the world, starting right here in the United States. The Dominionists will create this Kingdom of God.

Only when this Kingdom is created can Christ come again the second time. And somewhere at or around that time, the good Christians will experience Rapture and be taken or ascended into heaven, and the other Christians and non-Christians will face maybe 7 years of Tribulation.

The Dominionists are a self-aggrandizing lot. Not just any Christian will do. No, a good Presbyterian like Donald Trump doesn’t qualify. The bulk of your Catholics don’t make the cut either. And forget the “Judeo-” in “Judeo-Christian”.

I highly recommend that you read the rest of that; as it is very, very, enlightening. Only thing that she missed is that the fact that Christian Dominionism is a politicization of “Kingdom Now Theology” made famous by Jack Hayford. Other than that; this article above and linked, is excellent.

  1. Hi. Pro-Trump anti-Cruz Dominionist here.

LIsten, to anyone that is not a born again Christian, or charismatic, perhaps this seems spooky. It reminds me of the crap JFK had to go through for those who thought he wanted Catholics to rule world. Of course the church quickly turned against him on many fronts.

Listen, I know a great many of the people in this article PERSONALLY. i think the biggest affront of this notion that anyone who believes (as the 7 Mountains idea states) that culture is influenced by art, media, government, education etc – is, that if you are advocating for ANY party, candidate or viewpoint YOU ARE A DOMINIONIST TOO!

SOMEONE will influence society whether it is militant homosexuals, global one world elites, conservatives and/or Christians. DONT YOU WANT CHRISTIANS TO BE AT THE MOST INFLUENTIAL POSITIONS IN THESE AREAS? Of course you do. WE ALL DO. (especially Hollywood and Washington). So you are hypocrite to suddenly believe that Christians don’t have the same goals to put like minded people in high positions.

The author is correct that there are “soft dominionists” (which we all are) and “hard dominionists.” The quack and wackos are less that 1% or 2% who are mostly just ignorant and less intelligence Christians flocking to something they don’t fully understand. (A lot like Cruz followers.).

But the “7 Mountains” idea you speak of as a “cult” was started by Dr. Bill Bright and Vonnette Bright, and Loren Cunningham. Dr. Bright sold his prosperous candy business and put it all in to try and influence college students to accept Jesus instead of turning into the vapid, idiotic hedonists that have taken over just about every public campus in America. He also founded THE JESUS FILM which has brought Christ to 5.5 Billion (yes billion) viewers around the planet. His wife Vonnette STARTED the National Day of Prayer with Ronald Reagan. These were both dear people and spent their last years living on about $30,000 a year in a campus dorm at Campus Crusade HQ giving their life and their earnings to ministry while the organization he founded employees 25,000 worldwide and there are over half a million trained volunteers.

Loren Cunningham founded Youth With a Mission which employs 18,000 missionaries and helps millions of high school kids to learn to give of themselves and help others instead of focusing on what the Kardashians are sexting each other.

Jack Hayford is one of the most serious theologians of our day, the head of the Four Square Church and Chancellor of the famous Kings University (seminary) and has influenced millions of Christian LEADERS to have a closer walk with Jesus INCLUDING BILLY GRAHAM.

It is interesting they mention Chuck Pierce. Pierce invited all candidates to speak at his ministry in South Carolina (only Carson and Cruz accepted) but took ENORMOUS HEAT for defending Donald Trump to a large part of his congregation that were Cruzies.

Oh, and Lance Wallnau – the man who came up with the name “Seven Mountains” ? He is a good friend of mine. AND AN ARDENT TRUMP supporter.

Donald Trump told him that “the church has had no backbone in standing up to culture.” Guess what? THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE CALLING A CULT! Trump said EXACTLY what we all know. Is that we can’t lay down to liberals and enemies of Christianity (like Islam).

Are their pastors like Cruz Sr who take it too far? Absolutely. But of everyone listed on that list which I know (which is about 70%) NOT A SINGLE PERSON believes that influence should come coercively or against the wishes of the American people. I’ve heard them say that if Christians would quit trying to FORCE religion into culture and just do what Jesus said to do (heal the sick, blind and lame, help the poor) that they would WANT Christians to be in these positions.

The real battle isn’t “dominionism” and Christians who hide in their pews on Sunday. It is really between those that understand the radical power of the good news of Jesus – that HE will help you have an abundant and healthy life, if you follow Him and TRUST in Him – versus those that think you ave to “act perfect” to be a Christian (or righteous.) THIS is the line drawn between most of the Cruz and Trump evangelicals. And as the vote shows – the GRACE part of Christianity is winning over the LEGALISTIC side.

So disparage these good men who give millions of dollars to the poor, devote their lives to helping people be healed if you want. But you are dead wrong.

The good news is, Jesus loves you in any case.

And he hated the pretentious “religious” people of his day just like we hate those telling us to vote for Cruz because he is more “righteous.”
