A message of goodwill

As someone who feels that politics has become a bit too polarized and hateful; I want to send a message of goodwill to a blogger across the political divide.

It appears that a progressive blogger has had a health scare. From the Blog Rumproast:

We have a sad and urgent message about our dear friend and Rumproast blogger StrangeAppar8us: for the past ten days, he has been hospitalized and fighting for his life.  He is stabilized now to some degree, but is on a long, difficult road about which nothing is certain but that it will include disability. We wish we could tell you, our wonderful readers and friends, more, but we are committed to honoring Strange’s privacy, which is also the wish of his family. The day after he was hospitalized, I flew to Pennsylvania, accompanied by his friend and Rumproast founder Kevin K. and his lovely wife. Marindenver is here with him now as well.

We will be doing everything we can for Strange, including setting up fundraisers and putting together his work, but for now we have an immediate need for homes for his three cats, most likely permanent homes, though I hope with all my heart someday he may be reunited with at least one. They are all seven years old, spayed and neutered, and I am hoping he may get one back someday, but we have no idea if that will ever happen.

Sometimes in the zeal to defend what we believe in, we lose site of what is important. This is important; politics is a thing that I write about, it is not who I am. I am not so locked into a partisan mindset that I do not care about the well-being of others. There are some on the right that would use this as a chance to smear the “limo left” as I call them; I will not do that, just because I do not believe that it is the time or the place for that.  

There is a time for politics and there is a time for real life; this is one of those times. Your health is everything and when that goes, it is over. I wish “StrangeAppar8us” all of the very best and for a strong and quick recovery. I hope that there are homes of the kitties found; yes, I will confess, I too, have a fondness for cats and other such little furry animals.

Some might consider me a faux Conservative for saying things like this. To them I simply request that they find the shortest pier that they can find and take a long jump from it. This is not about partisanship my friends; this is about humanity and grace. It would be abhorrent of me to say anything other than what I have written.

Again, I send my prayers and best wishes to “StrangeAppar8us” and his family; and to the many friends of his in the progressive blogosphere.

UPDATED: No, a bullet hitting the White House is NOT good thing!

I feel the need to write about this, because it needs to be said —- especially by someone from my side of the political fence. A bullet hitting the White House is not funny, cool, and acceptable or even remotely a good thing at all. My feelings about the occupy protesters, who were breaking the law, aside —there really is not an ounce of this that should be celebrated by anyone at all.

Now, for all we know, this could have very well been and I hope truly hope it was, just a stray bullet from a shooting in the area. It is a fact that Washington D.C., especially in and near the downtown area is a bit of a high crime area, especially at night — kind of like Detroit. However, because I am quite the realist, I fear the worst.

I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of this President; he is a socialist, he is an ultra-liberal Democrat. However, he was a socialist, ultra liberal Democrat who was elected by the American people and because of this, he does deserve to be protected — so that he can continue to screw this Country into the ground — I mean, what is the Conservative blogosphere, going to write about once Obama is out of office? I am being funny, of course.

Seriously, I do hope that it is found where this came from and who did it. I also notice that one of the left’s more cookie cutter liberals has posted about it as well. I hope knows and reads that I do not support this sort of a thing at all.

UPDATE: The AP is reporting that the suspect has been arrested at a hotel in PA.

Memo to Bill O’Reilly: stop the whining!

So some history folk find errors in Bill O’s book. What does he do? He plays the “They’re conspiring to get me!” card.

Bill O’Reilly strongly defended his best-selling “Killing Lincoln” book on Monday after a Ford’s Theatre bookstore refused to sell it because of alleged historical inaccuracies.

The Fox News host told POLITICO that the attack on his book about President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination is “a concerted effort by people who don’t like me to diminish the book.”

In a historical review of “Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever,” Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site deputy superintendent Rae Emerson on Saturday slammed the book’s “lack of documentation and the factual errors within the publication.”

As a result, she recommended the National Park Service not stock “Killing Lincoln” on the shop’s shelves at Ford’s Theatre.

O’Reilly said he was speaking out about the controversy because “you ignore most of it but we were getting a little bit tired.”

He also shot back at Emerson’s claims about the book’s mistakes, saying there are just four errors in his 325-page work— and two of those are typos.

The alleged mistakes by O’Reilly and his co-author Martin Dugard start in the prologue and are found in other places in the book, according to Emerson’s analysis published in The Washington Post on Nov. 12. O’Reilly claims Ford’s Theatre burned to the ground in 1863 — but it actually happened on Dec. 30, 1862. He writes several times over that Lincoln held meetings or sat in the Oval Office — a nice image. It turns out, however, that the West Wing’s Oval Office wasn’t built until 1909 during President William Howard Taft’s administration, Emerson wrote.

Good grief, just admit you made a few mistakes and move on. What a two-year-old. Eye rolling smile

Rich White Honkey Michael Moore lives it up

The fact is that Moore is so wealthy that he does not need to worry about his income. According to public tax records, Moore owns a massive vacation home on Torch Lake, Michigan–one of the most elite communities in the United States–in addition to his posh Manhattan residence.

Through an independent source, Big Hollywood has obtained exclusive photographs of the house matching the address of Moore’s waterfront mansion. It is the kind of luxurious summer home that 99 percent of Americans can only dream of owning.

Property values on Torch Lake, according to one real estate website, range “from $400,000 to plus $3 million.”

Moore’s property has been officially assessed at close to $1 million (see below; we have redacted Moore’s addresses and parcel number). That is likely a gross underestimate, but nevertheless places Moore’s vacation home near the top one percent of home values in affluent Forest Home Township, and among the upper crust of residential properties in the state of Michigan. (Update 11/11/11: Several readers have pointed out that in Michigan, the S.E.V. is half the estimated fair market value of the home, so Moore’s Torch Lake vacation home is likely worth close to $2 million.)

In addition, according to statistics from 2009, Forest Home Township has no black residents. The township is roughly 98 percent white. Call that 99 percent, and Moore’s claim to be among “the 99 percent” begins to have some basis in reality.

No one begrudges Moore his wealth, but it is deceitful for him to claim poverty while encouraging class warfare among other Americans. It is also purely narcissistic and selfish for Moore to back radical and destructive socialist policies that would deny other Americans the opportunity to become as rich as he is.

I can really see what Andrew is driving at here; why claim to be of the 99%, when you are not even in the same ballpark as them. Besides all that; and I think I’ll share this, it comes via Wikipedia:

After dropping out of the University of Michigan–Flint following his freshman year (where he wrote for the student newspaper The Michigan Times), Moore worked at the local Buick plant.[18] At 22 he founded the alternative weekly magazine The Flint Voice, which soon changed its name to The Michigan Voice as it expanded to cover the entire state. In 1986, when Moore became the editor of Mother Jones, a liberal political magazine, he moved to California and The Michigan Voice was shut down.

After four months at Mother Jones, Moore was fired. Matt Labash of The Weekly Standard reported this was for refusing to print an article by Paul Berman that was critical of the Sandinista human rights record in Nicaragua.[19] Moore refused to run the article, believing it to be inaccurate. “The article was flatly wrong and the worst kind of patronizing bullshit. You would scarcely know from it that the United States had been at war with Nicaragua for the last five years.”[20] Moore believes that Mother Jones fired him because of the publisher’s refusal to allow him to cover a story on the GM plant closings in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He responded by putting laid-off GM worker Ben Hamper (who was also writing for the same magazine at the time) on the magazine’s cover, leading to his termination. Moore sued for wrongful dismissal, and settled out of court for $58,000, providing him with seed money for his first film, Roger & Me.[21]

 

That is right kiddies, Michael Moore started making movies and got famous for disobeying his bosses and suing his employer. Disappointed smile 

I will also tell you this; I am in constant contact with and am friends with a retired UAW President from Flint, I will not publish his name, but every time he speaks of Michael Moore, he does not have much good to say about him at all.

So, to the liberals who read this blog, remember this, when you are out there protesting against all that wealth; better yet, find out where Michael Moore lives, and go protest at his house. Shifty
