AFL-CIO says hands off Social Security and Medicare

I hate to say it; but I happen to agree with this man’s statement. The solution to our crisis is not gutting social security and medicare. The solution is to stop with the pork barrel spending and stop the flow of imports into this Country. If we imposed tariffs again in this Country and got rid of these idiot trade agreements, we could, in fact, pay down our debt and fund our social safety net.

But, the idiots in congress will not even consider that; on the left or the right.

Wow: America’s Evangelist Billy Graham Turning 95

If I ever live that long, I hope I am able to get around as good as Billy Graham does.

The Story:

Evangelist Billy Graham turns 95 next month. His son, Franklin Graham, said hundreds have been invited to his father’s Nov. 7 birthday celebration.

Despite his advanced age, there are no signs that “America’s pastor” is slowing down.

This summer, he completed his latest book, The Reason for My Hope, along with an outreach video, titled “My Hope America with Billy Graham.”

Franklin said his father dictated the text and had it read back to him because his vision is poor.

He added that his father isn’t sure how he’ll feel on any given day, “until he’s had his cup of coffee.”

While I respect Billy Graham, and honor his age and all the accomplishments that he has made to the cause of Christ; I must be honest. I do, as a Fundamentalist Christian, have issues with Rev. Graham’s Ministry. Please see here and here for what they are, please.

My best to Rev. Graham on his 95’th Birthday. 😀

Uh-Oh: Al Qaeda-Aligned Groups in Syria might have access to WMD chemicals

This is not good at all:

The Story:

Al Qaeda-aligned militants operating in Syria could already have access to “biological pathogens or weaponized agents,” according to terrorism and biological warfare experts studying the region.

The possible acquisition by al Qaeda of these highly dangerous toxins has prompted bio-warfare experts to label the threat a “clear and present danger.”

Extremist militants and other fighters tied to the terror group al Qaeda have continued to gain a foothold in key sections of Syria as the country’s civil war rages on.

Lawlessness has taken hold in many areas that are home to Syria’s biological weapons research hubs and mounting evidence indicates that al Qaeda fighters have capitalized on this security gap by looting the facilities.

“The Syrian civil war has left sections of the bio-pharmaceutical infrastructure destroyed and looting of labs has been observed, which could indicate that Assad is losing command and control over one of the most dangerous classes of weapons remaining in his weapons of mass destruction (WMD) arsenal,” bio warfare and terrorism experts Jill Bellamy van Aalst and Olivier Guitta conclude in a new report.

My question is, does John Kerry know about this one? 😯

U.S. debt now at $17.075 trillion

This is why you do not vote for Democrats people….

The Story:

U.S. debt jumped more than $300 billion on Thursday, the first day the federal government was able to borrow money under the deal President Obama and Congress sealed this week.

The debt now equals $17.075 trillion, according to figures the Treasury Department posted online on Friday.

The $328 billion increase is an all-time record, shattering the previous high of $238 billion set two years ago.

The giant jump comes because the government was replenishing its stock of “extraordinary measures” — the federal funds it borrowed from over the last five months as it tried to avoid bumping into the debt ceiling.

Under the law, that replenishing happens as soon as there is new debt space.

Back in a few hours

My sleeping habits have taken a bit of an odd turn. I’m back into my silly habit of sleeping in the day and being up at night. I’m trying to fight back, but at 41 years old, it’s not easy.

So, my sleeping is all over the place at the moment.

I’ll be back, when I get some rest.

The Showdown is over, House Approves Senate Budget Deal

Finally. My friend John can get back to work.

The Story:

Moving with stunning speed, Congress voted Wednesday to end the 16-day-old government shutdown and avert the potential for the first major debt default in U.S. history in a deal that gave President Obama most of what he sought — an open government and more borrowing authority without denting Obamacare.

The Senate voted 81-18 to approve the deal and sent it over to the House, which quickly followed suit with a 285-144 vote on the measure — amounting to an almost complete surrender for the GOP.

Mr. Obama signed the bill immediately early Thursday.

“There’s a lot of work ahead of us, including our need to earn back the trust of the American people that’s been lost over the last few weeks,” he said. “With the shutdown behind us and budget committees forming, we now have the opportunity to focus on a sensible budget that is responsible, that is fair and that helps hard-working people all across this country.”

House Republicans saw the vote chiefly as a way to bring an end to a bruising fight that saw the GOP sink to historic lows in approval ratings, and that exposed deep party divisions over tactics and policy.

“This legislation must be supported, but it should not be celebrated,” said Rep. Charlie Dent, Pennsylvania Republican, who had been begging his party to end the shutdown. “It’s not a win for anyone — not the institution of Congress, nor the president, for that matter.”

Still to be seen is whether the deal subdues the tea party, which had helped push Republicans to take a stand that in hindsight appears to have been futile.

Bass fishing champion James “Jimmy” Johnson killed in Black on White hate crime

This is sickening…

James “Jimmy” Johnson – Bass Fishing Champion

Via WAPT.com…

Police have a teenager in custody in connection with the shooting death of a bass fisherman at a Jackson motel.

Jackson police said in a news release that Shun Brown, 17, “confessed to being responsible for the death” of James “Jimmy” Johnson.

Investigators executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at a home on Delmar Street. Officers were seen carrying a red hooded sweatshirt from the house that was similar to one worn by a suspect in a surveillance photo released by the Jackson Police Department earlier this week.

Officers were also searching a wooded area Wednesday for the gun they believe was used to kill Johnson, 56, of Ganado, Texas. Johnson was staying at the Motel 6 off Interstate 55, where he was shot and killed Sunday night.

Brown is charged with capital murder, police said. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

Johnson was to compete this week in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open tournament on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Tournament organizers plan to honor him and his family during the event, which begins Thursday.
