UPDATED – Anyone know what’s going on with Bruce Gerencser?

His blog is down and his e-mail addresses are bouncing.

Update: I just thought I would let everyone know. I did a lookup for Bruce in his hometown of Ohio. I did find a number for him, I called and left a message for what was hopefully Bruce’s number.  I do suspect that one of these happened:

  1. His blog was possibly hacked and his host could not restore it; and he decided to pack it in because of that.
  2. Bruce does still have family within the IFB or Independent Fundamental Baptist circles. It is totally possibly that Bruce got some negative pushback from family or from someone in the IFB movement and he decided it was not worth going to war with them over it.

Either way, it kind of saddens me that Bruce left again; and I do hope he comes back. If he blog traffic is not terribly heavy, I would be willing to host his site here, as an sub off of my server here. Only thing I would ask for is a little help with the hosting. There would be no interference whatsoever with his blog. I would just help set it back up for him.

If anyone hears anything about Bruce and to what is going on, if you would please, leave me a message in the comments section of my blog.

Thanks!

-Patrick

MASSIVE HIGH UPDATE AND PLEASE EVERYONE READ THIS! –  I received a phone call from a gentleman down in Ohio, near Columbus. It appears that the number that happens to be listed on the Internet for Bruce, is not Bruce’s at all and has not been his for a very long time. So, please DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER LOOKING FOR  BRUCE, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BELONG TO HIM AT ALL!

That is all…

  1. Also too, and I really don’t think that I really need to say this; but, I will.

To all the Christians reading this, please note: I never have, and never will ever agree with Bruce’s positions on Christianity at all, ever.

However…. I do understand why he did what he did and I understand his feelings about the so-called “Church” world. The reason for this is because, quite frankly, I have been screwed, tattooed and boo booed by the “Church World” and the abusive jackals that exist within those circles.

In other words, I’ve been there and did that; twice over. 😡

The biggest mistake that Bruce made is this….:

Bruce allowed the actions of others to drive him away from God. He also trusted the so-called “scholarly knowledge” of men over the Word of God, which honestly requires faith to believe in. I honestly do not believe Bruce had that faith to begin with. You can give lip service all you wish, and fool yourself into believing that you do; but the Lord knows the true intentions of everyone’s heart. You could say that Bruce allowed his faith to be stolen from him.

I do honestly pray that Bruce finds his faith again, that is, if he honestly ever had it in the first place. If he thinks a “sign or wonder” will do it; he will be setting himself up for the largest deception ever. Believe me, I know. I spent 21 years in those circles of deception. Pentecostalism, what a lie for the hottest part of the Devil’s hell!

    Just my opinion.

  2. I am more concerned that there has been crisis with his health. He seemed to be handling the negative push back really well lately and was excited about a creating a new forum supporting folks who are dealing with doubt. He had given us a heads up the site would be closed for a short time for upgrades/changes but his disappearance from any internet presence worries me that his health may have taken a turn for the worse. I join you all in hoping the best for him and truly miss his writing.

    1. Anne, you might be right. I really do not know.

However, I tend to suspect he was either pissed off about the negative stuff or someone within his family or one of his former “Fundy” colleagues threatened to sue him or something over his writings.

Either way, it’s a shame to see him go.

  3. Let me also say this, and Bruce, if you’re lurking, know that I mean this in a good way,

I’ve been blogging about politics for since 2006, and as a independent, I’m always too much of a liberal for the right and a “winger” to the left. It comes with territory!

If I shut my site down every time someone said something I didn’t like, I’d done quit and started 25 times already. You have to have thick skin to make it as a public figure and blogger. I guess Bruce was just too sensitive; and that is just a shame too.

He is a good writer and a very smart man too. He just couldn’t take the heat of the public arena.

    ….and that is a shame.

    1. Bruce also is disabled…and I know that being under stress would cause him much more physical pain. I don’t think you can understand what it feels like to have much more pain when the stress increases. I do, I have similar problems to Bruce. When the physical pain goes UP, then of course it kicks off more anxiety, which then increases stress and then pain…it is a never ending cycle. So I don’t think you understand the problems he was fighting against. I do, with both have fibromyalgia. By the way, it is a real disease treated by doctors. Only the ignorant think it is NOT.

      1. Becky,

        Quoting you:

So I don’t think you understand the problems he was fighting against. I do, with both have fibromyalgia. By the way, it is a real disease treated by doctors. Only the ignorant think it is NOT.

I have never, nor would I ever, say that fibromyalgia is a myth, ever!

I happen to have A.D.H.D. which some people, mostly idiots, say is a myth too.

I know full well what Bruce is a going through and it is awful, I feel for the guy, I really do. 🙁

        Thanks for the comment…

  4. Glad to see a Christian stand up to others who name the name of Jesus. I came from a group that was filled with hate and spite, who used scriptures to justify their deeds and words.

I had wondered what happened to Bruce, too. I was using my google-fu and wound up here.

After my deconversion, I lurked on his site for quite a while, then I put out some guest posts, which he gladly uploaded. It seemed that he wasn’t enjoying his last few weeks of posting as much as he used to. I think the big corner was turned when he said he was done with the atheist label, due to the connotation. Maybe fighting two equally strong groups was too much for him.

I’ll definitely give this blog a try, seems like a decent place.

    1. Thanks Ian. I think Bruce’s biggest flaw is that he cannot handle the negative aspect of blogging and Internet.

This is why I moderate everything here. Because if I didn’t it would get out of control.

Mainly this is a political blog, and I do tend to lean to the right and yes, I am a Christian. But, I don’t preach here much at all.

      Thanks again,

      Patrick

  5. I had just discovered Bruce’s blog a few months ago, and was an avid reader. I’m sad to see his entire online presence disappear, and have been thinking of him and worrying a bit. Although the hateful venom thrown his way had recently reached a new all-time low, I hope he knows there are many who value and support him.

  6. At first I thought his blog was hacked too. But his facebook, twitter etc accounts have all vanished so I suspect he pulled the plug and walked away (again!).

He had talked about walking away if he found that he no longer enjoyed blogging and of the abusive messages he received. But he responded to one of my comments on his blog and 12 hours later the blog vanished. So something sudden must have happened that tipped him over the line.

In any case, I wish him well.
