UPDATED – Anyone know what’s going on with Bruce Gerencser?

His blog is down and his e-mail addresses are bouncing.

Update: I just thought I would let everyone know. I did a lookup for Bruce in his hometown of Ohio. I did find a number for him, I called and left a message for what was hopefully Bruce’s number.  I do suspect that one of these happened:

  1. His blog was possibly hacked and his host could not restore it; and he decided to pack it in because of that. 
  2. Bruce does still have family within the IFB or Independent Fundamental Baptist circles. It is totally possibly that Bruce got some negative pushback from family or from someone in the IFB movement and he decided it was not worth going to war with them over it.

Either way, it kind of saddens me that Bruce left again; and I do hope he comes back. If he blog traffic is not terribly heavy, I would be willing to host his site here, as an sub off of my server here. Only thing I would ask for is a little help with the hosting. There would be no interference whatsoever with his blog. I would just help set it back up for him.

If anyone hears anything about Bruce and to what is going on, if you would please, leave me a message in the comments section of my blog.

MASSIVE HIGH UPDATE AND PLEASE EVERYONE READ THIS! –  I received a phone call from a gentleman down in Ohio, near Columbus. It appears that the number that happens to be listed on the Internet for Bruce, is not Bruce’s at all and has not been his for a very long time. So, please DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER LOOKING FOR  BRUCE, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BELONG TO HIM AT ALL!

  2. I think that, for those who read Bruce’s blog carefully and get to know the man a bit (not that I know him very well at all), the cycle of blogging and then disappearing does make sense. Firstly, he receives a lot of abuse from people just for writing things, and that has got to get even the best of us down from time to time (I’ve taken the odd lengthy hiatus myself). Secondly, as Becky wrote in a comment above, he suffers from several physical impairments that also are likely exacerbated by the stresses of engaging on the internet. And thirdly, I believe he has stated that he suffers from depression, something that can cycle in one’s life and lead one to engage and then disengage.

    There are many of us former Christians out there, but what makes Bruce’s story so compelling is his lengthy history of being deeply involved in the church. He was no Sunday-only Christian who just got tired of it all. I’ve always said his story could easily be a bestseller book if he would write it out in that form.

    I, for one, will be on the lookout for his return.

    I also ended up here, searching for info on Google about Bruce. As one person stated, Bruce’s health may have had a setback, the other thing I seem to recall is that a few weeks before his blog vanished, he was talking about going with a new hosting company or server, or something. (I may be wrong on that, so don’t quote me.) I do hope he returns.

    I’m a long time internet friend of Bruce’s, going on ten years. I found a link to this post when I Googled his name. I’d like to add a few things here.

    Bruce has deleted blogs, email addresses and other social media sites a number of times over the years. He can disappear, then reappear at another address and start over again. He has written much about his love/hate relationship with social media, and says that when he’s blogging he thinks about quitting all the time.

    So, in short, I’m fairly certain he’ll show up again. Maybe in a few months, who knows. I always enjoy finding him, though, when he reappears.

      I know, and that is the part I just do not get. I mean, why go through all that trouble just to disappear?

      Doesn’t seem that smart to me.

    2. I love Bruce’s blog and I really miss it. I have been speculating for weeks that he dropped out due to health reasons. However, your comment makes me think that may not be the case…in which case, I think it would be nice if he would give his friends some forewarning before shutting down, just so we won’t worry.
