More of Obama’s Audio on the Energy Industry

(H/T to Capt. Ed over @ HotAir)

The Quote:

The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, “This is really important,” and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

They — you — you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, “Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, they’re going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars,” or whatever their number is. Um, if you can’t persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.

If we can’t make that argument persuasively enough, you — you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. You’re not going to get that done.

Sorry, you cannot spin that.  Obama, in essence, is saying that he will cause one industry to collapse. All so he can promote his own agenda of “Green” energy. The problem with that is this, there are no tested, proven and ready alternative forms of energy, yet.

Ed from HotAir weighs in:

Energy prices skyrocketing will leave the economy in tatters, as we saw earlier this year.  While no one doubts the need to start transitioning to better sources of energy, the manner in which that gets done means the difference of whether it gets done at all.  A stagnant or receding economy does not produce scientific breakthroughs, especially when government both increases taxes and imposes steep cost burdens on energy.  That cuts into both manufacturing and R&D, because as profits fall, fewer dollars go into research — which means that all of these wonderful developments would get delayed, or go unrealized altogether.

We need to plan for the transition better than what Obama proposes.  We need to use our own reserves of oil, natural gas, coal, and shale to cushion the economy while we develop the alternatives and build the infrastructure to deliver it.  That’s what John McCain proposed in his Lexington Project.

Price shocks on energy is the last thing this economy needs.  It would be worse than the taxes Obama promises to impose on investment, and would have the same depressive effect.  It’s an utter disaster.

Not only this, but I also believe that if Obama does this, Jobs will be lost. I guess Obama believes that stealing one man’s job, top create another is just perfectly fine. 🙄

That would be like shutting down an auto plant, and putting people, who have worked at an auto plant for some 30 years, out of a job. Just so that a company could start a car plant, making electric cars. Yeah, sure, new jobs are created, but what about the people working for the auto plants, that do not make the Electric car? Why allow them to suffer?

Just more things to keep in mind, when voting, come Tuesday. Because Obama believes in spreading the wealth, except it comes to those working in the coil industry.

If I were the Unionized Coil Miners, I would raising the roof about this!

No wonder The Washington Times was tossed off Obama's plane!

Wow, no wonder The Washington Times was taken off of Barack Obama’s plane.

The Washington Times, in one of it’s commentary sections really let Barack Obama have it, These are questions that The Washington Times felt that John McCain should have asked Barack Obama:

  • With the announcement that you raised an additional $150 million in September alone, you’re on pace to raise and spend something on the order of $650 million during the campaign. Together with your Big Labor allies and liberal 527s spending perhaps $350 million more on top of that on your behalf, we’re looking at a staggering $1 billion. Furthermore, it has been reported you’re out-advertising the McCain campaign 4-to-1 around the country. Aren’t you essentially trying to buy the presidency? When was it put up for sale to the highest bidder?
  • — My campaign has been criticized by the liberal media in recent weeks for some angry words about you from some of my backers, which I’ve disavowed repeatedly. By contrast, why have you not vigorously condemned the remarks of your supporters, like those of actress Sandra Bernhard, who warned Sarah Palin to stay out of Manhattan lest she be gang-raped by Miss Bernhard’s “black brothers,” or Rep. Charlie Rangel, who said Mrs. Palin was “disabled”; or South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler, who said Mrs. Palin’s chief qualification for having been selected as my running mate was that she hadn’t had an abortion; and most recently Rep. John Lewis of Georgia who likened me to one-time segregationist George Wallace?
  • — You have spoken of your intention of raising taxes on the “rich” and making them pay their “fair share.” Can you put some hard numbers on that? What constitutes “rich” in your view, and what do you consider a “fair share,” given that, according to October 2007 Internal Revenue Service figures, the top 1 percent of taxpayers already pay 39.4 percent of all income taxes, the top 5 percent pay nearly 60 percent and the top 25 percent pay 86 percent? Is that not “fair share” enough, and if not, what would be “fair,” in your view?
  • — You and your vice-presidential running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, have vowed repeatedly to “end” the war in Iraq. Why is the verb always “end” and never “win”?
  • — You have sought to make an issue of my supposedly voting with President Bush 90 percent of the time, hoping to link me to a president whose popularity rating is under 30 percent. But isn’t it also true that you have voted 95 percent of the time with a Democratic Congress whose popularity rating is even lower than Mr. Bush’s, in some polls as low as 9 percent. So isn’t that 90 percent thing a red herring?
  • — During the Democratic primaries, you refused to participate in a debate on the Fox News Channel, supposedly because the network isn’t “fair and balanced,” even though the event was to be co-sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus. If you are unable to stand up to Brit Hume and Chris Wallace, why should we believe that as president you would be able to stand up to Vladimir Putin, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong-il or Hugo Chavez?
  • — You have longstanding ties to ACORN, a left-wing group that is being investigated on voter-registration fraud charges in at least a dozen states, including in Nevada, where ACORN employees submitted voter-registration forms for the entire Dallas Cowboys starting lineup. Will you sever all ties to ACORN, call on Congress to revoke its millions of dollars in federal funding and urge the attorney general to pursue a RICO (Racketeer-Influenced Corruption Organization Act) investigation of ACORN?
  • — You have received the backing of the teachers unions and have called for more federal spending on public education. So, if you are elected president, will you send your daughters, Sasha and Malia, to the D.C. public schools, as President Carter did with Amy? Would it not be hypocritical – in essence saying, “Do as I say, not as I do” – to do otherwise?
  • — In your acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention, you said we should be our “brother’s keeper.” Yet, what have you done in that regard to help your own half-brother, George Hussein Obama, who lives in a hut in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, on $1 a month?
  • — You say you are against gay marriage, so why have you come out against a ballot referendum in California that would overrule the actions of four judges there that overturned the expressed will of 61 percent of the people of California in a 2000 referendum and imposed gay marriage by judicial fiat?
  • — Some of your supporters have tried to make a health issue of the fact I’ve been treated for melanoma, even though I’ve been pronounced cancer-free. Yet you have not released more than a summary of your medical records. Will you release your full medical records before the election. If not, why not? Don’t the people have a right to know?

While all of these questions are legitimate, It seems to me, that the times is a bit on the aggressive side. I also noticed that this did not get printed till after their reporters were safely off the plane. Smart move, one would suppose.  While on their face, the questions asked here are proper, but it comes off, at least to this writer, as a bad case of sour grapes.

At the risk of being accused of being a race baiter myself. I honestly have to ask the The Washington Times, if they would ask such questions of this Democratic Candidate, if he were a white man? I really wonder.

I think it would be good for the Conservative media, at the point, to just get over it, and accept the fact that the Democrats are going to win this election and start planning for 2012.

Oh yeah, but I’m a liberal, if I say stuff like that! 🙄

John McCain does SNL…

As a Rule I do not watch Saturday Night Live. That sort of humor is just not my bag. But I do enjoy watching some of the politically related stuff.

Anyhow, John McCain was on there, here’s the video:

The quip about the McCain fine gold was rather snort worthy.

In this clip the lines about “Reverse Maverick” and “Double Maverick” were a hoot too.

Overall, it was rather funny, him and Tina Fey was rather interesting…

What was even more hilarious was the video of the send up of Keith Olbermann! I loved that, and from what Keith said on show, so did he. Which brings the question, when someone does of a send up of your program, and you love it, what kind of person does that make you? 😀

Here’s the video:

The camera changes and the drama are a perfect imitation! Richard Wolf and the other person were done very well. The Special Comment about Keith’s Cat was perfect, the head tilting and screaming was very funny.

Although the paper throwing was done much out of the proper order. The hair color was spot on. Overall, it’s much worth the view.

Finally: Obama's Birth Certificate Verified By State of Hawaii

Maybe this will put this rather idiotic rumor to bed.

This via KITV:

The state’s Department of Health director on Friday released a statement verifying the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama birth certificate.

The state has received multiple requests for a copy of Obama’s birth certificate. State law does not allow officials to release the birth certificate of a person to someone outside of the family.

There were rumors that Obama was born in Kenya, where his father is from. The Constitution requires that the president be a natural born citizen of the U.S.

While many sites and news organizations have released copies provided by the Obama campaign, the rumors have persisted.

“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate. State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record,” DOH Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said.

Fukino said she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama’s original birth certificate.

“Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures,” Fukino said.

Fukino said that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama’s certificate be handled differently from any other.

Some Obama critics claim he was not born in the United States.

Multiple lawsuits were filed to try and force Obama to provide proof of citizenship. Earlier Friday, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama’s U.S. citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.

This story, Which has been disproven by Factcheck.org and WorldNetDaily both, still continues to exist. As long as there are people, like Alex Jones who continue to believe and spread this rumor, It will exist.

The real funny thing is, this rumor and the one about Obama being a Muslim was started not other than the White Nationalist Website, Stormfront.Org. I remember seeing the first posting saying as much back two years ago. I never thought it would ever go this far. So, one can safely say that this entire rumor is entrenched in Racism.

Of course, the G.O.P will never admit to the racism, but that’s to be expected of that Party. 😀

Perhaps now, that Tin foil hat crowd will finally fine something or someone else to rumor monger about. (Except perhaps for me! 😮 )

There may be some faults to Sarah Palin, This is NOT one of them….

For all things that I have criticized, mocked and made snarky comments regarding Sarah Palin. This is not one of them.

This story comes from, of all places The L.A. Times, which could be considered a hit piece, because of the piece trying to say that Palin is too emotional. However, here is the quote:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived at the Boyer Orchards here Friday afternoon, entering a sweet-smelling wooden barn full of crates of apples. "This is gorgeous," Palin said, greeting workers.

The visit was designed to highlight small businesses and their special needs and how a John McCain administration would help them.

And the Republican vice presidential candidate did talk business and taxes with Matthew and Bruce Boyer, whose family has owned and worked this 300-acre orchard for 51 years now.

But it was after their business chat that Palin had some special moments with a special fan, Amber Brown. As Palin left the barn, an excited crowd outside was mid-verse singing "God Bless America," but roared at the sight of Palin.

Brown, who is 23 and from New Paris, held a poster that said: “I have Down’s syndrome and I’m voting for you. I’m a fighter too!”

Palin saw Brown, headed straight for her and they embraced. “I love that poster!" said the mother of a Down syndrome baby (Click on Read more line below to see photo of Palin with her infant son, Trig).

"You’re a fighter and you’re beautiful,” Palin told Brown. The pair posed for pictures and hugged again.

Palin then continued down the rope line, paying special attention to the babies and children, at one point crouching down beside four little girls.

Once Palin finished, she returned to Brown and embraced her again. Palin’s husband, Todd, also came by and chatted with Brown and her family.

As someone who grew up with a bad case of A.D.H.D. which, quite frankly, made my damn life a living hell. I can relate to this. I made offhand snarky comment in a chat room about this lady’s situation, because I felt she might be exploiting it for political purposes. But perhaps I  misjudged her a bit.

I will expect that the Communist Liberal Keith Olbermann will make some sort of smart assed comment about this on his program Monday, which would not surprise me at all. As Sarah Palin said in the Video, this isn’t about politics, this is about kids who are born with disabilities that they cannot control or had any say in choosing. Whenever I see a child with turrets or polio, I get misty eyed, because I don’t have it nearly as bad as some. My little inability to focus without proper meds is a drop in the bucket, compared to some of the disabilities that some are born with.

It also hits home for another reason, my aunt; my mom’s sister has a disability; she is developmentally disabled. The old word was, well, Mentally Retarded. (it sounds so damn cruel to call her that.) She will never be able to take care of herself. My mom has vowed to take care of her, as long as she is able. However, it pains me to see her sometimes struggle to handle her. She’s not getting any younger. I sometimes fear to think what might happen to my aunt, if my Mom passes away. I try and not dwell on it. It frightens me to.

So, accept this little sobering piece, just as a mea culpa. I get this one too.

The Obligatory Obama's Aunt is here illegally post

I say “obligatory”, because I say it is quite silly that the Conservative Blogosphere is having a hissy fit over that fact that his Aunt was living here.

Obama says that he did not know, and you know, I’m inclined to believe the guy. You just cannot keep track of everything your damn family does.

Hell, I have a cousin who’s a career criminal, am I responsible for his actions? Hell no!

It just seems to me, that the Conservative Blogosphere has been on the hunt to; dare I say the word?; Lynch Barack Obama for having the gall, the outright audacity, the very nerve; to run for President of The United States of America. For, dare I say it?; venturing into White Man’s territory.

I think the that the George W. Bush Administration would do well to just leave well enough alone. Because the last thing that the Republican Party needs is to be known as the Party that deported an African-American Presidential Candidate’s aunt from the United States. That would indeed be the nail in the coffin of that political party. As it is now, the Republican Party has been tarred by the irresponsibilty of some of it’s more fringe elements. The last thing they need right now is something like this on the minds of everyone voting come November 4.

….and that’s my take on it.

From the Mailbag

This from the AHSA:

USAToday reported that Dan Cooper, founder and owner of Cooper Firearms, lost his job.  The reason: He’s voting for Obama:

Montana gunsmith Dan Cooper has been ousted as chief executive of the rifle company that bears his name after pressure from gun owners who are angry that he is supporting Democrat Barack Obama.

Today, on behalf of the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), I condemned the actions by the NRA and its cronies forcing Dan Cooper out.

The gun lobby’s attempt to destroy a good man and small business owner, a loyal member of the gun fraternity, again reveals the desperate Joe McCarthy-like politics of fear that the NRA leadership and others put first.  They are trying to scare America’s hunters and shooters into voting against Barack Obama — but we have one thing to say: vote hope and not fear.

I have been campaigning in battleground states, including Ohio, Minnesota, Florida and Colorado for Barack Obama this fall.  I know first-hand that gun owners are voting for Obama. They know their gun rights are secure.  And they want a president who won’t take their guns AND will focus on the economy and their jobs.  It’s beyond appalling that hard-core gun activists would destroy the economic livelihood of a guy like Dan Cooper.  John McCain should be ashamed that his supporters have harmed a small business owner for political reasons.  That should never happen in the America.

Last year we witnessed what happened to prominent outdoor writer and commentator Jim Zumbo when he dared take a position contrary to NRA policy.  Now they are trying to do the same to Dan Cooper.

This is wrong, and rank and file gun owners who have no political ax to grind need to stand up, reject such underhanded tactics and have their voices heard. That’s why AHSA was formed, to end this partisan bullying and to restore pride to the shooting sports.   This action against Cooper reinforces my commitment to making change happen by electing Obama – and by building an organization for hunters and shooters who are tired of extremism.

I believe that while it is a legit point to not like Obama’s socialism. Firing someone from their own company for supporting a politician, is crazy.  Especially when they founded the company.

This election cannot end quick enough, for me anyhow.

Questioning Bush's Sanity

A rather remarkably interesting article over at the quite Liberal Op-Ed News asks, “Is Bush Sane?

Actually, the real question that one should asking is, are those who voted for him twice sane, despite the fact that he took us into a war, based upon what is now known as false information.

Further more, the even bigger question is, will all of those people vote for McCain?

That’s what we should be asking.
