It must be nice….

Looks like David Gregory of MSNBC will not be charged with a crime for displaying a high-capacity magazine on TV. William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has the scoop:

Just released by D.C. Attorney General there will be no prosecution of David Gregory despite a finding that there was a clear violation of the law (emphasis mine):

Having carefully reviewed all of the facts and circumstances of this matter, as it does in every case involving firearms-related offenses or any other potential violation of D.C. law within our criminal jurisdiction, OAG has determined to exercise its prosecutorial discretion to decline to bring criminal charges against Mr. Gregory, who has no criminal record, or any other NBC employee based on the events associated with the December 23,2012 broadcast. OAG has made this determination, despite the clarity of the violation of this important law, because under all of the circumstances here a prosecution would not promote public safety in the District of Columbia nor serve the best interests of the people of the District to whom this office owes its trust.  Influencing our judgment in this case, among other things, is our recognition that the intent of the temporary possession and short display of the magazine was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy in the United States, especially while this subject was foremost in the minds of the public following the previously mentioned events in Connecticut and the President’s speech to the nation about them. There were, however, other legal means available to demonstrate the point and to pursue this line of questioning with the guest that were suggested to NBC and that could have and should have been pursued.

OAG also appreciates that the magazine was immediately returned to the source that NBC understood to be its lawful owner outside of the District and that the magazine in question, with NBC’s assistance, has been surrendered to MPD. OAG also recognizes the cooperation NBC has provided in the investigation of this matter.

Proving that if you rich, white, liberal and you happen to be friends with the DC attorney general; you can pretty much do what you darned well please.

Unbelievable. 🙄 Whatever happened to rule of law? Whatever happened to the justice system in this Country? …and they wonder why people go on these shooting sprees because they are simply pissed off at the Government?

The Story:

A group of Florida-based Satanists will be holding a rally in support of the Sunshine State’s Republican Governor Rick Scott on January 25. According to a press release for the event, the Satanic Temple, which organized the rally, will be showing “solidarity” with the governor for his “unwavering fortitude and progressive resolve in his defense of religious liberty,” specifically his approval of a legislation that will allow students to vote on whether or not to include prayers in graduation ceremonies and other school assemblies.

“The Satanic Temple embraces the free expression of religion, and Satanists are happy to show their support of Rick Scott who–particularly with [Senate Bill] 98–has reaffirmed our American freedom to practice our faith openly, allowing our Satanic children the freedom to pray in school,” the group said in a statement announcing the rally.

I would have loved to see the look on Rick Scott’s face, when his staff told him that he had Satanists supporting his bill. I bet that made him feel really good. 😉

The Detroit News pulls the plug on The Michigan View

It seems that the Michigan View, which was ran by the Detroit News as a Conservative group blog has had its plug pulled:

Today is the last day of The Michigan View.com, the state’s biggest, baddest, boldest voice of conservative opinion.

It’s been a blast bringing it to you.

Since its launch on Independence Day, 2010, The Detroit News’ online product featured timely commentary on the news of the day, broke some news itself, and generally drove the Left to drink.

(….)

Alas, MIView has been shelved. Budget realities dictate that I will be doing my writing for The Detroit News as a columnist and editorial writer – in addition to my daily editorial cartoons. And while the MIView All-Stars will no longer be at this address, you can find (many of) them at the URLs listed below. As MIView’s editor, I had the best job in the world the last two years – the opportunity to edit their work every day.

via That’s all, folks | www.michiganview.com | The Michigan View.

The economic situation here in America is really putting the hurt on big media, unlike anything I have ever seen before. Sooner or later it is going to be just us independent, non-corporate bloggers left. I also tend to believe that the publication came off as a bit partisan as well. Michigan, and especially the Detroit area is really not a Conservative or Republican region. It is tough to sell small Government to people who are trained on liberalism.

At the same time, I believe that this is a tragic thing; I believe diversity of opinion is important. I do not believe that the Democratic Party and the socialist Liberals have all the answers and I believe there are times, when they are simply wrong. I believe the marketplace of ideas should be a diverse one. Unlike some on the left and some on the right; that diversity of opinion is a good thing.

On a personal note: Serves them right for not hiring me! I could have made waves, set them up with real blogging software and would have made a group blog that would have gotten them noticed. Instead, the kept the same idiots, who do the Detroit News and then that site and see what happened? It went under. Good. Serves them right for ignoring the best writer in the Detroit area. Conceited, who me?

James Yeager puts it in reverse

Remember my angry friend, who wanted to kill everyone? He has had a change of heart: (Via TPM) (LANGUAGE!)

Also too, James? If you do not want people embedding your videos or “stealing them” as you call it. Then don’t share your videos on a public video sharing site like YouTube, you dip wad! 😆 Furthermore, you say you don’t need the criticism  then why did you post a video like that on YouTube? I know why! Because you wanted the attention! Now you got it. Enjoy it, relish in it, be on the lookout for the FBI; but enjoy your 15 minutes. It will be good for business, assuming you own the shop.

There is always a reason

This basically proves my point, that nobody goes and shoots people for no reason. This sounds like Columbine all over again:

(CNN) — A 16-year-old student who blasted a California high school classroom with a shotgun Thursday was targeting two classmates because he felt he’d been bullied, the local sheriff said Thursday night.

One student was hit and was in critical but stable condition Thursday night, and the shooter was in custody after a teacher and the school’s campus supervisor talked him into putting his shotgun down.

Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said he did not know whether bullying had actually occurred between the Taft Union High School students.

“But certainly he (the shooter) believed that the two people he had targeted had bullied him,” Youngblood said at an evening news conference in Taft, about 30 miles from Bakersfield.

The young shooter was still being interrogated Thursday evening, Youngblood said, adding that the youth will be charged as a juvenile with attempted murder. It will be up to prosecutors to decide whether he should be charged as an adult, the sheriff said.

As someone who was bullied when I was a kid, I can tell you now; if I had been able to get an assault rifle, when I was kid, that there would be some dead people that used to attend Grace Christian School in Detroit and Grace Assembly of God in Detroit; both are now defunct by the way. (big shock there… NOT!) I do not justify or support this kids actions; but I totally understand it and can see why he did it.

ANGRY! man of the week

Oh brother. Talk about doing us no favors.

The Story:

In a video posted to YouTube and Facebook on Wednesday, Tactical Response CEO James Yeager went ballistic over reports that the president could take executive action with minor gun control measures after the mass shooting of 20 school children in Connecticut last month.

After the Drudge Report likened Obama to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin on Wednesday, pro-gun conservatives expressed outrage over the idea that the White House could act without Congress.

“Vice President [Joe] Biden is asking the president to bypass Congress and use executive privilege, executive order to ban assault rifles and to impose stricter gun control,” Yeager explained in his video message. “Fuck that.”

“I’m telling you that if that happens, it’s going to spark a civil war, and I’ll be glad to fire the first shot. I’m not putting up with it. You shouldn’t put up with it. And I need all you patriots to start thinking about what you’re going to do, load your damn mags, make sure your rifle’s clean, pack a backpack with some food in it and get ready to fight.”

The CEO concluded: “I’m not fucking putting up with this. I’m not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I’m not letting anybody take my guns! If it goes one inch further, I’m going to start killing people.”

Honestly, why would NRA expect anything different?

This seems to be a bit silly, but I really think the NRA did not know what was coming:

Via the Weekly Standard:

NRA.gif“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again.  We attended today’s White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals,” reads the NRA statement.

“We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.  While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans.  It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems.  We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen.  Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.”

I hate to be the one to say “Well Duh!” but….um…:

The NRA should have known better than to even remotely think that they were going to get anything other than what they got from this Presidential Administration. This is why they need to hire me to do their political consultant work. I can tell them everything that they need to know about guns and Democrats. 😀

Interesting note about Jack Lew

Honestly, what does Barack Obama have against the working class in this Country? Quite a bit, it seems:

With President Obama poised to tap current chief of staff Jack Lew as his next treasury secretary, Republicans are already attacking Lew for supposed slights during budget talks. Some progressives may bring renewed scrutiny to his time at CitiGroup. But if history is any guide, there will be little talk about another line on Lew’s résumé: The key role he played in New York University’s campaign to rid itself of a graduate student workers’ union.

Lew, the former director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Clinton, joined NYU as chief operating officer and executive vice president in 2004. At the time, NYU was the only private university in the United States whose graduate students had a union contract. By the time Lew left two years later, NYU graduate students had lost their collective bargaining rights. In between, picketers hoisted “Wanted” posters with his face on them.

Reached over email, Andrew Ross, NYU professor of social and cultural analysis, charged that “the administration followed every page of the union-busting playbook, as instructed by the anti-union lawyers retained for that purpose.” Ross, a co-editor of the anthology “The University Against Itself: The NYU Strike and the Future of the Academic Workplace,” wrote that despite broad faculty and community support for the union, “students on the picket line were threatened with expulsion. There was no indication that Lew, as a senior member of the team who executed this policy, disagreed with any of these practices. To all appearances, he was a willing, and loyal, executor of decisions that trampled all over the students’ democratic right to organize.”

When contacted for a response, White House spokesperson Eric Schultz emailed: “Jack Lew has been a strong supporter of the right of workers to organize – as has the President. And that support will not change in his new role as Treasury Secretary.” – via Jack Lew’s union-busting past – Salon.com.

I always said, since day one of the first election cycle of Barack Obama; that he was nothing more than a two-bit phony. I believe that in his second term, we are going to find out just how big of a two-bit phony that he can really be towards the unions and the working class. Would Hillary have been any better? I really do not know. But, when I hear a Democrat basically say, “I care about the high-tech jobs.” and not say anything about the unskilled laborers, like myself. I have to really wonder, just what kind of person is he really? We are about to find out, I think and I believe it is not going to be good for the unions and the working class in general —- not to mention most gun owners.

Lack of self-awareness of the day

Michael Moore, love him or hate him; he is something else. Seems that Moore was at an awards presentation and this happened:

The Story via the New York Post:

Michael Moore got a bad review from at least one upset critic at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards at Crimson on Monday. Moore was there to present Best First Film to David France for his doc “How To Survive a Plague,” a salute to a protest group that stormed St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1989 over the AIDS crisis. But Armond White, gadfly critic and former organization chair, began heckling him for “anti-Catholic” rhetoric. Moore raised hackles when he recalled how activists at the height of the epidemic blocked roads, threw pies at politicians and interrupted Mass at St. Patrick’s. Moore stated, “I personally like that one. I say that as a former seminarian.” But White and a friend shouted, “[Bleep] you!” “You liar!” “Shut up!” and “Drop dead!” Moore responded, “I’ve pissed off the Catholics,” and began a blessing in Latin. He then went on to say that “those who would deify Reagan and Pope John Paul II are responsible for the deaths of thousands of people . . . because of their bigotry.” White — who has dished out his fair share of criticism to Moore in his reviews — was later heard saying that Moore “disparaged Catholics,” and told us, “I was offended . . . He was there to present the film and not present a personal political diatribe.”

Okay that is fine, Michael Moore is known for that sort of a thing. It goes with the territory. However this one here, really made me laugh:

Moore says, “I was just describing some of the things of the film . . . [White] is a reactionary conservative [bleep]hole.”

So says the man who is known to be a left-wing reactionary Democrat liberal. Another thing too that really makes me wonder. This Armond White guy is a catholic and supposedly a Christian, if so, what gives here?:

But White and a friend shouted, “[Bleep] you!” “You liar!” “Shut up!” and “Drop dead!”

Just further proving what I have believed all along, Roman Catholics are NOT Christians! Anyone who is tied to a Church of that sort does not use language like that, at least not the ones I know. Oh, and before anyone asks, “what about this here?” Look, I know where I stand in eternity; I know the decision I made when I was a boy and according to the Word of God, I am sealed to the day of judgment. Not only that, I admit it, I am not perfect. But at the same time, I am not representing a Church either. Furthermore, I also happen to know about the false doctrines of that Church and I also happen to know that Catholics do NOT say a sinners prayer at all. Therefore, they are not Christians, not in the sense of the word as I know them!
