Update #10:

Eyewitness account via NBCNews.com:

WASHINGTON — Two workers at the Washington Navy Yard who came face to face with the gunman in a dimly lit hallway recounted Monday how he silently raised his rifle and opened fire on them.

Don Andres, a legislative aide to Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., describes to MSNBC’s Chris Jansing the scene near the Washington Navy Yard, where 12 were wounded and at least four people died after a shooting at the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command.

“We’re lucky he was far enough away he was a bad shot,” said Terrie Durham, a civilian employee in the Office of Naval Sea Systems Command.

Durham and co-worker Todd Brundivge were in their office Monday morning when a fire alarm went off, followed by an announcement of an emergency and orders to leave the building.

“I was on the phone and someone came up to my desk and said, ‘This is not a drill. Someone had just been shot. There are shots in the building,'” Brundivge said.

“So I hung up the phone and started to try to get people out of the building.

Update #11Fox News is now reporting that one shooting is now dead, and that Navy police and DC police are looking for two other shooters. Terrorism, at this time, is not suspected; that this is an isolated incident. I will refrain from my commentary in a news post. Hopefully, the police and Navy Police find out is going on and the motive for this. My thoughts and prayers to victims and deceased and their families. 🙁

Oh, BTW, when I refer to commentary; I am referring to motive. Fox News is pushing the terrorism motive hard. I won’t do that. It is too soon to speculate and I won’t do that here. Anything else, is fair game.

Update #12Some interesting news via ABC News:

…and here is some weapons grade stupidity, props to Hotair.com for finding this one.

Here’s the video:

Wow… Just wow…. 🙄

Update #13Still no word on motive. One shooter has been ID’ed and they are still looking for a second shooter. I will take this off sticky and move on.

Detroit Free Press Special Report: How Detroit went broke

This is a very interesting report and it is coming from the Detroit Free Press which is basically liberally biased.

Here is the meat and potatoes of the report:

For this report, the Free Press examined about 10,000 pages of documents gathering dust in the public library’s archives. Since most of those documents have never been digitized, the Free Press created its own database of 50 years of Detroit’s financial history. Reporters also conducted dozens of interviews with participants from the last six mayoral administrations as well as city bureaucrats and outside experts. Among the highlights from the review:

■ Taxing higher and higher: City leaders tried repeatedly to reverse sliding revenue through new taxes. Despite a new income tax in 1962, a new utility tax in 1971 and a new casino revenue tax in 1999 — not to mention several tax increases along the way — revenue in today’s dollars fell 40% from 1962 to 2012. Higher taxes helped drive residents to the suburbs and drove away business. Today, Detroit still doesn’t take in as much tax revenue as it did just from property taxes in 1963.

■ Reconsidering Coleman Young: Serving from 1974-1994, Young was the most austere Detroit mayor since World War II, reducing the workforce, department budgets and debt during a particularly nasty national recession in the early 1980s. Young was the only Detroit mayor since 1950 to preside over a city with more income than debt, although he relied heavily on tax increases to pay for services.

■ Downsizing — too little, too late: The total assessed value of Detroit property — a good gauge of the city’s tax base and its ability to pay bills — fell a staggering 77% over the past 50 years in today’s dollars. But through 2004, the city cut only 28% of its workers, even though the money to pay them was drying up. Not until the last decade did Detroit, in desperation, cut half its workforce. The city also failed to take advantage of efficiencies, such as new technology, that enabled enormous productivity gains in the broader economy.

■ Skyrocketing employee benefits: City leaders allowed legacy costs — the tab for retiree pensions and health care — to spiral out of control even as the State of Michigan and private industry were pushing workers into less costly plans. That placed major stress on the budget and diverted money from services such as streetlights and public safety. Detroit’s spending on retiree health care soared 46% from 2000 to 2012, even as its general fund revenue fell 20%.

■ Gifting a billion in bonuses: Pension officials handed out about $1 billion in bonuses from the city’s two pension funds to retirees and active city workers from 1985 to 2008. That money — mostly in the form of so-called 13th checks — could have shored up the funds and possibly prevented the city from filing for bankruptcy. If that money had been saved, it would have been worth more than $1.9 billion today to the city and pension funds, by one expert’s estimate.

■ Missing chance after chance: Contrary to myth, the city has not been in free fall since the 1960s. There have been periods of economic growth and hope, such as in the 1990s when the population decline slowed, income-tax revenue increased and city leaders balanced the budget. But leaders failed to take advantage of those moments of calm to reform city government, reduce expenses and protect the city and its residents from another downturn.

■ Borrowing more and more: Detroit went on a binge starting around 2000 to close budget holes and to build infrastructure, more than doubling debt to $8 billion by 2012. Under Archer, Detroit sold water and sewer bonds. Kilpatrick, who took office in 2002, used borrowing as his stock answer to budget issues, and Bing borrowed more than $250 million.

■ Adding the last straw — Kilpatrick’s gamble: He’s best known around the globe for a sex and perjury scandal that sent him to jail and massive corruption that threatens to send him to prison next month for more than 20 years. The corruption cases further eroded Detroit’s image and distracted the city from its fiscal storm. But perhaps the greatest damage Kilpatrick did to the city’s long-term stability was with Wall Street’s help when he borrowed $1.44 billion in a flashy high-finance deal to restructure pension fund debt. That deal, which could cost $2.8 billion over the next 22 years, now represents nearly one-fifth of the city’s debt.

With all the lost opportunities over decades, with Detroit’s debt mounting, with the housing crash and Great Recession just over the horizon, 2005 turned out to be the watershed year.

Although no one could see it at the time, Detroit’s insolvency was guaranteed.

via How Detroit went broke: The answers may surprise you — and don’t blame Coleman Young | Detroit Free Press | freep.com.

This should be a textbook example of why progressive politics and governance simply does not work.

It’s open season on white people

Another day, another racist black person attacking a white person…..

See here:

An attacker pummeled a bus passenger so hard he smashed the bones in his face after calling the victim a “cracker” in Manhattan – marking the second time in two days that people appeared to be randomly targeted in racial tirades against white people, authorities said.

In the latest incident, the suspect passed a 31-year-old rider on the M60 bus riding through Harlem, on West 127th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive, around 2:45 p.m., Friday, when he shouted the racial slur and punched the victim in the face, breaking his nose and eye socket, cops said.

The victim was treated for facial fractures at New York Presbyterian Hospital and released, police said.

The incident occurred as authorities reported that Jeffrey Babbitt, 62, fell into a coma after being punched and knocked to the ground in Union Square Park on Wednesday. He was taken off life support and died Monday, sources said.

via Bus rider’s face smashed in during ‘hate attack’ | New York Post.

Watch yourselves out there, ever since George Zimmerman was acquitted; this stuff has been going on. This is why I stay away from the east side of Detroit. That is simply the wrong side of town for a white guy like me to be anymore.

Of course, when blacks are not trying to beat us up or kill us, they are making up lies about people, like me; to keep them from being able to get a job and better themselves. So, it is nothing really new at all.

Don’t dare call it a hate crime

Because those so wonderful black people would never, ever, attack a white man for absolutely nothing, right? Right??!?! Surprise

Think again. Angry

The Video:

The Story via CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It came out of nowhere. A man allegedly went on a rampage in Union Square on Wednesday afternoon and left a complete stranger brain-dead in the process. Police said that the attack may have been a hate crime. Friends of Jeffrey Babbitt, 62, were shocked to hear about the random act of violence that left the gentle, retired train conductor in a coma, CBS 2′s Dave Carlin reported on Friday. “I don’t believe that. I don’t know why that happened. He is very nice,” Igor Sapozhnikov said. Babbitt was minding his own business as he walked through the crowd near the chess boards in Union Square when a man made a hateful announcement and began his rampage, witnesses said. “He said ‘the next white person who walks by I’m going to [expletive],’” one woman said. “His fist went in and the man’s head bobbed and he hit the ground and you could hear his skull hitting the ground.” The man continued his rampage before demanding to see police officers. “He stood there and hit two more people and asked for the police to come,” Michael Benson said. Stunned witnesses counted a total of three people attacked. The suspect, Lashawn Marten, 31, remained at the scene until police arrived.

Here’s the real kicker:

Because of Marten’s alleged comments about targeting white people the incident could result in hate crime charges in addition to felony assault charges, according to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. “Obviously our Hate Crimes Task Force is involved in aspects of that case,” Kelly said.

And the really sad part:

Babbitt was taken to Bellevue Hospital. Family and friends said that he is in a coma and has been declared brain-dead. His 92-year-old mother, Hedda, was by his side. She shared a Sheepshead Bay apartment with her son. He was her primary caregiver.

Every damned time I read this sort of stuff. I reminded of what kind of Country that I really live in. Of course, I too, and my family have been victims of black on white crime. So, it is not a shock to me at all.

Video: Sorry, but this is NOT “standing your ground” in Florida

It’s not even close.

The video:

Notice how many shots rang out?

Now for what this mental midget did: (via Florida Today)

Attorneys for a man who police said shot three people at the culmination of a neighborhood feud have filed a motion demanding a jury determine whether William T. Woodward’s murder charges should be dismissed under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

The motion says Woodward had been the target of a variety of threats and “exercised his right under Florida law to defend himself and his family that night.”

“It’s probably best that you don’t make threats against people, they may take you seriously,” said Robert Berry, an attorney representing Woodward.

Officials say Woodward snuck up on a Labor Day barbecue and opened fire at about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2012. Police arrived and found Gary Lee Hembree, Roger Picior and Bruce Timothy Blake all had been shot. Hembree and Picior died of their injuries. Blake, who was hit 11 times, survived.

Woodward, 44, is accused of two counts of first-degree felony murder and attempted first-degree felony murder.

Before the incident, police had responded numerous times to the ongoing dispute, according to a release. Woodward and Hembree went to court to discuss the dispute before Judge John D. Moxley. Moxley did not issue an injunction.

The motion filed by Woodward’s attorneys says in the hours prior to the shooting, all three men were yelling at Woodward and that this type of behavior had been ongoing for over a month.

In the hours before the shooting, the men called him names, and said “Come on boys. We’re going to get him. We’re going to get him, all three of us.”

Florida law allows people to use deadly force to protect against “imminent death or…prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony.”

Basically, what happened was this: This dude snuck up on these people in full Military fatigues and opened fire on a family and some friends —- while they were eating. The only thing this slime ball piece of crap needs to be doing, is to become the resident “pivot man” at the prison circle jerk. 😡

and that ain’t the worst of it, there is this too:

Woodward’s attorneys argue that an attack could have been expected based on the words of his neighbors. They go on to mention the “Bush Doctrine,” a concept that justifies a pre-emptive attack based on the need to defend from a threat.

The “Bush Doctrine”?!?!? WOW. Just…wow. 😯

Of course, there is this:

Melbourne attorney Kepler Funk said it was “valid” that Woodward would want an independent jury to make this decision rather than a judge, but felt it was unlikely the court would convene one for this pretrial hearing.

“It’s novel for sure, and I’m all for thinking outside the box, so I commend him for that,” he said. “I don’t know the court’s going to grant the motion though.”

In other words, this idiot has a snowball’s chance in hell in getting his case thrown out. I do not give a flying flip what someone is doing to you; teasing you, calling your momma a hoe or whatever — you cannot just sneak up on someone and empty a clip on them. That is not how it works. What works is IGNORING the persons doing this or MOVE!

I swear, I am seriously starting to wonder about people in society today! 🙄

Tragic News from the trucking industry

This is so sad:

A former employee at Pritchett Trucking Inc. based out of Lake Butler, FL went on a rampage on Saturday the 24th killing three people and wounding another before turning the gun on himself. His victims were his boss and coworkers at the trucking company.

The gunman, 72-year old Herbert Allen Jr, had retired from his job at Pritchett Trucking only a few days prior to the shooting for unknown reasons. Before he started his rampage, he left a note in his home with a list of five names on it and wrote that “these people deserve to die.” He traveled around the small town of about 1,500 people, tracking down the people on the list and shooting them.

He first went to a location owned by his former boss where he shot and killed 80-year old Marvin Pritchett who founded the company back in 1980. While he was there he also shot and killed 28-year old former co-worker Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado. He then drove to where another former coworker was driving a farm tractor on the road, had an argument with him and then shot him in the arm and side with a shotgun. The victim, 66-year old Lewis Mabrey Jr. is in good condition at the hospital.  His last stop was at his old company headquarters where he shot and fatally wounded 44-year old David Griffis.

After shooting Griffis, Allen returned home where police found his body after an apparent suicide. Authorities have not revealed who the fifth intended victim was.

Locals, including members of his family and the local police department were shocked by Allen’s actions. He had never been in trouble with the police before and he was described by a sheriff’s deputy as “laid back” and “law abiding.” The deputy also said that in such a small town, everyone knew each other.

So sad. 😥 Prayers for the families of all involved.

Missouri Christians temporarily barred from performing Baptisms in State Park

(H/T to Gateway Pundit, Mr. Conservative)

Todd Sterns at Fox News Channel reports:

In a stand-off between Baptists seeking to exercise their religious rights and the National Park Service, the National Park Service just blinked, backing off of a requirement that churches get a permit (a two day process) before baptizing people in public waters.

…In Missouri, where this matter came to a head, people gather together on river banks to witness baptisms. As choir members sing hymns, the preacher leads the new believer into the water for a full immersion baptism. In terms of environmental impact, this temporary plunge into the river is about as minimal as one can get, an impact that is equal to, or even less than, the effect from swimmers, fisherman, or weekend frolickers who head out to the same waters for fun and sport.

…Nevertheless, the Park Service recently began a new policy requiring churches that wished to hold baptisms in public waters to apply for a special permit at least 48 hours in advance of the baptism. The Park Service justified this recent demand by saying that the permits were necessary to “maintain park natural/cultural resources and quality visitor experiences, specific terms and conditions have been established.”

…In Missouri’s Ozark Mountains, the Park Service went one step further: it closed the road that led to a sandbar abutting a popular baptism site. And when we say closed, we mean closed. The Park Service didn’t just put up a “No Access” sign on the roadway. Instead, it blocked the road with boulders. While young and healthy people can still hike to the sand bar, elderly people, whether they are congregants or new believers, can no longer get there.

…On August 21, Rep. Jason Smith (Missouri, R) heeded the complaints of his constituents and wrote a letter to the NPS asking what the heck was going on…

…Between citizen outrage and Rep. Smith’s threat to bring the matter before the full Congress, however, the Park Service quickly reversed its new policy, writing to the Congressman that, “As of today, the park’s policy has been clarified to state that no permit will be required for baptisms within the Riverways. I can assure you the National Park Service has no intention of limiting the number of baptisms performed within the park.”

As Government gets bigger, this sort of stuff happens. Christians should be beware and vote differently.

Good News: The Southern Baptist Convention tells it’s Military chaplains, “No Same Sex Marriages”

So good to see the SBC take a stand and draw the line in the sand, and telling the Sodomite crowd, “No Mas!”

The Story:

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP) — The North American Mission Board has issued new guidelines for Southern Baptist military chaplains in light of the U.S. military’s recognition of same-sex marriage. The guidelines reiterate Southern Baptist doctrine and the expectation that SBC chaplains will not participate in or attend wedding ceremonies for gay members of the military.

“Our chaplains want to uphold the authority and relevancy of Scripture while continuing to serve in a very diverse setting,” said Doug Carver, the retired Army major general who leads NAMB’s chaplaincy efforts. “We believe these updated guidelines will help them do that while still sharing the love and the hope of Christ with everyone.”

The updated guidelines are being issued in response to the military’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the U.S. Supreme Court’s abolishment of the Defense of Marriage Act. The U.S. military requires all chaplains to be endorsed by a recognized denomination. NAMB serves as the endorsing entity on behalf of Southern Baptists

via Baptist Press -NAMB guidelines for military chaplains updated to address same-sex unions – News with a Christian Perspective.

Here are the updated regulations:

Doctrine — Chaplains will be expected to conduct their ministry in harmony with Article XVIII of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000: “All ministries regarding human sexuality will reflect the historic, natural and biblical view of marriage as God’s lifelong gift of ‘the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime.'”

Pastoral care — The guidelines remind chaplains that Southern Baptists view all sexual immorality as sin that violates God’s biblical standards for purity and that “Responsible pastoral care will seek to offer repentance and forgiveness, help and healing, and restoration through the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ’s sacrificial gift of love on the cross,” the document states.

Restrictions — The guidelines state that “NAMB-endorsed chaplains will not conduct or attend a wedding ceremony for any same-sex couple, bless such a union or perform counseling in support of such a union, assist or support paid contractors or volunteers leading same-sex relational events, nor offer any kind of relationship training or retreat, on or off of a military installation, that would give the appearance of accepting the homosexual lifestyle or sexual wrongdoing. This biblical prohibition remains in effect irrespective of any civil law authorizing same-sex marriage or benefits to the contrary.” Chaplains also are prohibited from participating in jointly-led worship services “with a chaplain, contractor or volunteer who personally practices a homosexual lifestyle or affirms a homosexual lifestyle or such conduct.”

Pluralism — The guidelines acknowledge that SBC chaplains serve in a pluralistic setting but expect, under U.S. Department of Defense guidelines, that the rights and freedoms of chaplains will be protected so they may “preach, teach and counsel in accordance with the tenets of their denominational faith group and their own religious conscience.” In addition, chaplains are expected to: “Treat all service members, regardless of rank or behavior, with Christ-centered dignity, honor and respect while assisting the institutional leadership in its religious mission requirements and responsibilities as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

Also too and I feel this to be very important:

NAMB President Kevin Ezell expressed support for SBC military chaplains and emphasized the need for Southern Baptists to remember them in prayer.

“For many members of our military — especially those deployed around the globe — our chaplains are the only pastors they have. That’s why it is so important that they uphold sound doctrine while showing everyone the love and forgiveness Jesus offers. We all need to be committed to praying for them in these challenging days.”

So, if you are a Christian, pray for these people. Because you know good and well that Satan, via the Liberal crowd will try and attack these chaplains for taking a stand against what the Sodomite world believes is normal.
