For three days last week a dead bunny was seen hanging from the front yard of Bill Demers fence along the Palouse.
Nearby neighbors thought it was initially a sick prank; however, Demers told KREM 2 News reporter Marissa Bagg he has made a habit of shooting rabbits.
Several neighbors contacted KREM 2 last week complaining of Demers
Neighbors have contacted both the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department and the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service, and both agencies have opened investigations into the incident.
“I don’t like killing animals, I do it to protect my property,” Demers said. Demers believes that hanging the dead bunny would deter other rabbits from coming onto his property.
He defended his position stating that the rabbits dig holes throughout his yard and ruin his crops and hay.
Neighbors say Demers’s latest stunt crossed the line, especially since many of the neighbors themselves have pets and his fence is along a school bus route.Demers said the hanging rabbit proved to be a deterrent for a while but the rabbits came back.
Finally, the night before Thanksgiving, someone in the area took the rabbit down without Demers’s permission.
Man…. This reeks to high heaven. There’s about 50 thousands thoughts going through my head right now.
