Local News: The party is over in Detroit

I believe that this ties in with the stuff that is happening in the Obama White House.

Basically my friends, the progressive big Government party is over in Detroit and pretty much in America.

It is so bad in Detroit, that Mayor Dave Bing is calling it quits and not seeking relection.

The Story via The Detroit News:

Detroit — Mayor Dave Bing will not seek re-election to a second term as Detroit mayor, but said in a surprise announcement Tuesday he will create a committee to explore other opportunities, including a possible run for Wayne County executive.

Standing amid supporters at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Bing said he and his administration have put the city on the right path to restructuring, but that he’s begun to question whether the state truly wants to act as a partner after installing an emergency manager in Detroit.

Bing, 69, an NBA Hall of Famer and businessman, said Tuesday he and his administration have “worked diligently to restore integrity to the mayor’s office and rebuild our citizens’ trust in city government.”

He cited his administration’s successes, including keeping GM headquarters in Detroit; restoring Cobo Center as a host for the North American International Auto Show; improving transportation options; demolishing vacant blighted properties; and creating an authority to fix public lighting. He said his administration has worked to cut expenses and increase revenues “even before” the appointment of Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr.

“Detroit’s serious financial challenges have been 40 years in the making,” he said. “We have found ways to overcome some of the hurdles… change is occurring in our city.”

Bing wavered on his decision for months. On Tuesday, he said he’s decided to form an exploratory committee to consider other opportunities to serve the region through public office, including a challenge to Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano next year.

“The city was in pain when we came on board,” Bing said. “It pained me to see it in this condition. However, there’s still a lot of work to be done. It will not be completed by the end of my term. I will continue to work for the advancement of this city and this region. Cooperation is vital to Detroit’s success.”

Why did Bing toss in the towel? Well, it might have something to do with this here; an Editoral from the Detroit News:

Consider Kevyn Orr’s assessment of Detroit’s financial crisis as equal parts warning siren and leverage. The city’s emergency manager is giving residents and city workers a heads-up that what’s coming won’t be pretty or painless. He’s also establishing his bargaining position as he begins difficult negotiations with creditors to reduce Detroit’s crushing debt.

All of the intended audiences should take him seriously.

Orr’s report, the first since he took over in late March, is intended, in his words, as a “sobering wake-up call about the dire financial straits” of the city. The numbers are bleak: Detroit has a $326 million accumulated deficit that is expected to grow by another $60 million by June 30; $15 billion in short- and long-term debt, and $2 billion in infrastructure needs just for the public lighting and water departments.

Its $1.23 billion in revenue is $200 million less than four years ago.

“We’re not playing,” Orr told The Detroit News. “The city is insolvent.”

Meanwhile, health care costs for both retirees and active workers are soaring and the pension funds may be deeply underfunded.

What Orr needs residents, employees and creditors to wake up to is the reality that this crisis can’t simply be managed away. Orr used the word “insolvent” in his report for a reason: Detroit can’t keep operating unless drastic changes are put in place.

“We can’t cut enough” to balance the budget, Orr said. “We have to negotiate with stakeholders.”

I recommend that you go read the rest of that one above. It just does not look really bad; it is really bad. I see why Bing decided not to be the Mayor when all the wrangling of the city’s finances is finally done. This is not a good time for the City of Detroit at all. I believe that they will overcome the problems; but there is no doubt, people are going to suffer and suffer badly.

UPDATED – It’s official: The Obama Administration is in deep trouble and I am done defending them

My friends, I was very, very wrong and for that, I am terribly sorry. 🙁

I said that I believed that the entire Benghazi, Libya debacle was over-hyped by the Republicans; and I still believe that, to a point.

However, there are many things that have come up since then, which I simply cannot defend.

They are:

  1. The IRS targeting Jewish groups.  – I mean, honestly, what the hell were the IRS and Obama’s people thinking when they let this one happen?
  2. IRS targeting Conservative groups in Washington and Elsewhere. — Did they not know that this would be exposed?
  3. DOJ going after the AP – This is borderline Watergate, so says a watergate player. — Again, what the hell were these people thinking?

My friends, the “Giving the benefit of the doubt” of the President and his Administration by this writer and blogger are over. There is no doubt in my mind that the Obama administration; much like the Administration of George W. Bush, became consumed with a lust for power and abused and exploited the office of President of the United States and the instruments of Governmental office for political purposes.

I leave you with two videos:

Update: Better clip via The American Spectator:

The Democrats have screwed themselves out of ever winning an election; for like oh, maybe the next 2 major election cycles. This is the sad part, Obama and his Administration promised Americans that he would be a clean break from the policies and practices of President George W. Bush and his Administration and sadly, it turns out that Obama and his Administration are just as bad; if not even worse.   As I wrote before, it is sad ending to a Presidency that offered so much to give; but ended up delivering little or nothing at all, in the realm of change.

It is going to be a long, hot, nasty, political summer for America, Americans, Black Liberal Americans and for Washington D.C.. I just hope that cool heads prevail. But, I really do fear the worst in yet to come.

Video: Judge Jeanine’s “fact based” takedown the Obama Administration on Benghazi

I put fact based in quotes, because of where she works. Because folks, the fact is, this is same network, who defended George W. Bush until it was no longer good for business and they knew that if they continued doing it that the credibility of the network was at stake.

Now, as I have written more than once,  I believe that most, if not all of this, is partisan theater. It is and it is getting nasty.

Having said that, this video here makes a very good case against the President and Hillary Clinton. If the Democrats are going to defend this President, they should try doing a better job than they are doing so far. Because this my friends, is downright deadly.

I think that we Christians ought to pray for stability of our Nation. Because I fear that all hell is about to break loose.

Videos: The anti-Obama white liberal Democrat left sees blood in the water

Continuing the partisan witch hunt against President Obama that I have been writing about here for the past week.

First up, Kristian Powers, a white Hillary supporter, takes her shots at the President: (Via NewsBusters)

Next up is the Democrat Party’s version of Ron Paul basically, there are Moonbats and there is this guy; he is taking a break from his UFO chasing to get his shot in on the President — guess he is still pissed off about not getting the Democratic Party nomination. Click the image to watch:

Click the image to watch Senator Moonbeam get his digs in on the President.

I hate to be the one to say that I knew this was coming; but, I did. I said this a long while back, that because of the White House’s lack of leadership on the healthcare bill and because of the people spurned by the Obama administration and Obama during the election —- that Obama would end up paying for what he did. Well, now, it is payment time. There is blood in the water and the sharks are circling; both on the right and on the left as well.

The general rule in beltway politics is this; you watch my back, I will watch yours. The rule also is: You screw me and I screw you even harder. During various times during Obama’s election in 2008 and in 2012, Obama screwed various people over. Those people are getting their paybacks now. It is a partisan game for the right, and it is a political game for the left. The sick thing is; Hillary got tangled up in it all, which will deep six her Presidential aspirations, if there were any.

It is a sad ending to a Presidential Administration which promised so much and yet, delivered so little.

Open Warning to Republican Controlled House: Impeachment will be a disaster for America

Yes, I am serious.  I knew this Libya thing was theater; but I now see just how bad it is.

The Video via Mediaite:

The Story:

After examining all the details that emerged on Friday relating to the efforts by members of President Barack Obama’s administration to remove references to Islamic terrorism when explaining the reasons behind the 2012 attack on an American consulate in Benghazi, the panel guests on MSNBC’s Now agreed that the appearance of a scandal makes the White House “look terrible.” One guest even suggested that the controversy could lead to impeachment proceedings against the president.

NBC Reporter Kelly O’Donnell read from portions of emails in which high ranking State Department officials coordinated with the CIA to alter the official talking points on the Benghazi attack to remove any references to prior warnings or Islamic terrorism.

“This is quite the window into what is usually the hush-hush process about how to deal with these types of attacks and the spin that irrevocably comes afterwards,” NBC reporter Luke Russert opined.

“This is not good for the White House right now,” Russert said to BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith. “Does it stick?”

“Well, sure,” Smith replied. “They look terrible.”

Smith said that the emails indicate that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may have been directly involved in the process of “scrubbing” references to Islamic terrorism from her department’s talking points.

“Does this become then an election politics thing?” Russert asked. He said that the Republican Party has been trying to link Clinton to the Benghazi scandal for some time.

The Daily Beast columnist Michael Tomasky said it does. He invoked “that word that starts with ‘I’” to describe the potentially significant political fallout that could result from the Benghazi scandal.

“It becomes a potentially impeachment issue as long as the Republicans are in control of the House,” Tomasky added.

I can tell you now, that if the perception among the black community is that the Nation’s first black President is being impeached by a white Republican Party; that there will be riots, there will be uprisings, and it will be messy. I sure hope that the United States has some sort of plan to put down an uprising of that sort of a scale. Because if you think that blacks will not riot and will not target white people in killings, for revenge; you are kidding yourselves.

I hope someone up there on the hill, has something more between their ears, other than air and puts a stop to this; before something horrible happens. This is the last thing America needs now. People are out of work, there is a 70% unemployment rate in Detroit and a very hot summer is coming to this area. I dread to think of what might just happen, if the House decides to go through an impeachment hearing. You think the riots in Detroit in 1967, and again in 1968 after MLK was murdered were bad? This riot would be 120 times worse than those riots ever were at the time.

All of these white conservatives who want to see some sort of a race war, will get their wish and it will be a brutal one too. I just hope that common sense prevails and not stupidity.

God help this Country and us all. 🙁

About the so-called “Whistleblower”

The truth comes about the Republicans paid parrot on Libya:

“He was removed from here because he was a disaster as a manager,” the second employee went on to say, expressing the belief that Hicks’ reassignment had “nothing to do with him being a whistleblower, it had everything to do with his management capacity or lack thereof.” This statement contradicts the narrative promoted on conservative media outlets that Hicks was being forced to remain silent and being punished for speaking out.

The same employees also told ThinkProgress of several troubling incidents involving Hicks and the staff at the Tripoli Embassy both before and after the September 11, 2012 assault in Benghazi. During the aftermath of Benghazi, Hicks showed a lack of diplomatic protocol that both staffers found extremely questionable given the tense times. This includes going to a meeting with the Libyan Prime Minister Mohammed Magarief in a t-shirt, cargo pants, and baseball cap. “I’m too upset to wear a suit,” Hicks allegedly told a staffer. “I want the Libyans to know how upset I am about this attack.”

In testifying before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, Hicks gave some of the most riveting testimony yet on what occurred in Tripoli the night of Sept. 11, 2012, when a diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya was attacked. That detailed account was prefaced by Hicks’ written testimony, which included claims that his superiors praised his performance during the night of the attack, which now rings slightly hollow given the critiques of his colleagues.

When speaking about the night of the attacks, the employees ThinkProgress spoke with described Hicks as being in a daze while other senior Embassy officials organized the evacuation from Tripoli to Germany. “At one point [Hicks] wandered past the huddled State evacuees, muttering to himself, and just sank into a couch,” the first employee relayed to ThinkProgress.

Prior to today, the State Department attempted to chart a middle path on Hicks, seeking to neither give credence to his claims of retribution nor portray him as lacking as a leader. Speaking in the daily press briefing yesterday, State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters that Hicks’ reassignment was merely part of the Foreign Service Assignment System. “He’s now, per the standard procedure with all the other members of the Foreign Service, working through a preference list that he submitted, and he’s under consideration for positions in the next rotation,” Ventrell said. “So this is all part of the standard procedures.”

via Embassy Staff Undercuts ‘Whistleblower’ Testimony On Benghazi.

I am thinking that the Republicans might have just overreached on this who Libya thing just a little bit.

I also think that only “Whistles” being “blowed” are those of some very well know Republicans who are financing this whole partisan witch hunt. IYNWIMAITYD!

Video: Migrant Farm Workers fired because they didn’t want to burn alive

More of that abusive crony capitalism that I detest…..

The Video:

The Story via NBC LA (H/T to Raw Story)

More than a dozen farm workers in Southern California were out of a job after walking out of the fields last week, forced indoors because of heavy smoke from a massive wildfire burning nearby.

“Oh, yeah, the smoke was very bad. That’s no doubt about that,” said Lauro Barrajas, of the United Farm Workers.

As the blaze, dubbed the Springs Fire, continued to grow in Camarillo May 2, farm workers 11 miles south in Oxnard said they started to feel the effects of the smoke in the strawberry fields.

The ashes were falling on top of us, one of them explained, adding “it was hard to breathe.”

Air quality in the region was at dangerously poor levels and 15 workers at Crisalida Farms decided they could not handle it any longer. They left, even though their foreman warned them they would not have a job when they returned.

When they went back to the fields May 3, the farm fired them.

Barrajas, who is a representative of the UFW, said the workers contacted him for help, even though they were not members of the union.

Union representatives met with the farm’s upper management and applied a union rule.

“No worker shall work under conditions where they feel his life or health is in danger,” Barrajas said.

In a statement to Telemundo, the farm representative said the workers left without permission while orders still needed to be filled. The company offered to pay them for the hours they’d worked.

Later, the company settled with the union and offered to rehire all 15 workers. But only one worker returned.

This is why I believe illegal immigration should be stopped. Because of stuff like this here, it is abusive and exploitative for Farm Owners to force workers to stay in a field with fire that close to them.

Furthermore, I believe it says a good deal about the Farm Workers Union to step in, even though these guys were not even union members and come to their defense. I believe it also says a good deal about the farm itself, when the workers say, “No thanks!” when offered their jobs back. Again, I believe this is one of the biggest reasons why the illegal immigration problem in this Country must be stopped. Because of stuff like this here.

I end this, with a word from one of the workers:

One worker said while it hurts to lose work, one’s health is more important.

Indeed, it is and I commend these workers for standing up against abusive employers and I commend the Farmer Workers Union for standing up for them — that is the American way.

I have often written on this blog about the good and bad of the Unions. This is the case of the good side of the labor movement.
