Editorial: Do we really want another Neo-Conservative in the White House?

It is not every day that I find myself in agreement with Keith Olbermann. In fact, fifty percent of the time, I find myself talking back to the television, when his show is on. However, this time is a huge exception. In this video, Keith comes to the same conclusion that I myself came to, while watching the debates Thursday night. That conclusion is that Sarah Palin, for all her good looks, down to earth charm, and Conservative values is nothing more than President George W. Bush in a woman’s body.

The Video:

Honestly, what else are independent minded people like me supposed to think? While I am a Libertarian Paleo-Conservative, I am also quite the Constitutionalist. It is no myth at all the Vice-President Dick Cheney literally stepped all over our Nation’s Constitution. In fact, I can honestly tell you that while I do not fear George W. Bush, I frankly do fear Dick Cheney, which is Because Dick Cheney is in my opinion the perfect embodiment of a right wing fascist.

I read with great amusement recently where Neo-Conservative publisher Joseph Farah stated that fascism is a left wing doctrine. While he is possibly correct in his definition of the word and the philosophy behind it, if he thinks that fascism is only limited to the liberal side of the political fence he is very highly mistaken. One need only take one look at the Bush Administration’s attempts to silence those who pointed out that Bush and his corrupt Administration were wrong about Weapons of Mass Destruction, which they frantically waved in front of the American people, as an excuse to invade a country that had absolutely nothing to do with the September 11 attacks.

Then during this Vice-Presidential debate, we have a Vice President candidate carping about how she wants to expand the powers of the office of Vice-President. Is this ignorant woman serious? This is supposed to be a Republican candidate for President of United States, A Conservative, and Conservatives believe in limited Government, less taxes and individual freedom. Yet this woman wants to expand the role of the Vice President and thereby increase the size of our Government. Is there any other Independent Conservative-minded person that sees something terribly wrong with this picture, besides me?

While I do applaud the accomplishments of this woman, (What little they might be) I just cannot sit idly by and not speak out against this woman’s Neo-Conservatism and Rockefeller type of Conservatism. America, especially here in Michigan, has suffered through eight years of George W. Bush’s idiotic failed policies. We cannot afford four to eight more years of royally screwing the middle class, while Wall Street gets richer and richer. We cannot afford four to eight more years of George W. Bush and frankly, Dick Cheney in a skirt!

I urge everyone that happens to read this blog, Conservative and Liberal. Republican, Democrat, and everyone in between to really take a good hard look at this woman and her running mate and think about it; do we really want another President like the one we have in there? While I am not a big fan of the socialist agenda of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, I honestly have to wonder, would America be better off with a Democrat in the White House, who might raise taxes a little and might put forth some socialist programs for those who might actually need them?

There is no mistake, the idea that Government will expand under an Obama Administration is nothing more than a well-manufactured myth. Our Government is already oversized as it is and anyone who believes that John McCain will reduce the size of the Government is suffering from delusions of grandeur. He will no more reduce the size of our Government, than I will take up the cause for Roman Catholicism.

I firmly believe that it is high time that the American people, political pundits, and the media pull their collective heads out of the sand and begin to think for themselves and really ask themselves, what do we want for a President? Because if we make the tragic mistake that we made in 2000 and 2004, America will become nothing more than a wasteland. Instead of people looking at America with pride, they will look away in utter horror and disbelief that we as American citizens allowed our country and ourselves to become. We simply cannot afford to be asleep at the switch this election season.

Thanks for reading.

Editorial: Sometimes acting like Michelle Malkin is a good thing

I sit here tonight, as a former “left of center” Blogger, amazed at what has become of the party, that I once used to just blindly vote for every year.  I fully understand what Ronald Reagan was referring to, when he quoted Al Smith in his 1964 speech called “Rendezvous with Destiny.”  It just seems to me that the Liberals in this country of ours, instead of listening to the other side of the political fence and possibly learning from them, are more interested in mocking them and living in their own altered state of reality. Conversely, I have been told that this is nothing new, Democrats have been doing this for years.

Earlier tonight, I was over looking around on a well-known liberal Blog called Crooks and Liars, which, for those of you who are not normally of the Blogging community is a rather humorous reference to former President Richard M. Nixon’s statement of, “I am not a crook.” John Amato, A liberal from California, runs that rather interesting Blog.  Earlier tonight, John made a rather flippant comment that burned me to my core, and as a result, I felt the need to write about it, and the person, of whom he was referring.

John Amato was reporting on a Conservative Radio host from Alaska, who rather idiotically, made some rather nasty comments about some women holding a Anti-Sarah Palin rally in Alaska, and also about him giving their personal cell phone numbers out, whereby causing some of them to receive threats.  The host was suspended a week, without pay, which I feel was ample punishment.  To be fair to the Host, he was not aware that the numbers given out were personal cell phone numbers.

It was not the reporting of the incident that annoyed me to my core, it was the rather offhanded, mean spirited comment that was attached to the reporting of that story, that warranted this Editorial.  The comment that sent me over the rails, the comment, that I feel, was a shot over the bow of a rather highly intelligent woman, who I feel is unique spokesperson for American Conservative values in this Country.

“Acting like Michelle Malkin does have some consequences after all.”

That, Mr. Amato, is over the line.  I will explain why. However, I do not expect you, being locked into your bastardly Liberal mindset, to understand why I feel so damned strongly about this. Nevertheless, I will try to make your rather simple liberal mind understand the questions I am about to ask you.  I realize it might be a crab shoot with you, but I am in need of a challenge this evening and you are the target of interest.

  1. Do you believe that Michelle Malkin’s due diligence in reporting on the war on terror is a hateful thing?  I would expect so, seeing most of you liberals believe that we should try to talk to people who want to see this Nation and everything it stands for destroyed.
  2. I suppose that you believe that Michelle Malkin’s reporting of the vandalism that happened to the Vietnam vets war memorial in Washington D.C. is a hateful thing as well?  This would not surprise me.  Seeing it is you liberals, who hate our military, to the point of wanting America to lose a war and return home in disgrace.  Vietnam proved that sir.
  3. I suppose you would disapprove of Michelle Malkin’s resolve to “Lan Astaslem” which is Arabic for “I will not submit/surrender?”  This is a pledge that we as Americans will not submit or surrender to Islamic extremists who want to strike fear into the American people and ruin our livelihoods, something that I also believe in, to my very core.  I say this because it is you and your Liberal friends wish to appease those who want to destroy this Nation.

Yes, Michelle Malkin and I do have our differences.  Her brand of Conservatism is a bit different from mine.  I do not agree with every thing that she writes.  I am not a “Malkin-bot,” a funny term that I gave to some of her supporters, who tend to be, what I and Andrew P. Napolitano like to call sheep. However, that is about where the differences end.  When it comes to matters of National Defense and Defending our Military against those who would like to see it destroyed, including brain-dead liberals like you, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.  I am, in fact, in agreement with her on these issues.

In closing, let me simply say this.  The Democrats talk about change.  Well, this year is going to be a major change for me as well.  For the first time, since I have legally eligible to vote, I will be not voting for a Democrat.  This is because the party that I used to just blindly vote for, in every election has totally drifted beyond the point that I feel to be acceptable in American politics.  I am sorry, but I cannot and will not vote for a Party’s candidate, whose politics resemble that of Karl Marx or that of the Nazi Party.  Furthermore, I will not vote for a candidate whose party abdicated its core principles in the Primary and at the convention, just so they could hurry up and get their nominee.

This is to say nothing of the communist socialist agenda,  the wholesale slaughter of innocent babies, the outright attack of the Judeo-Christian Faith, The Promotion and advocating of the Atheistic movement and the furtherance of the Homosexual agenda, the promoting of Identity Politics within the African-American community, in response to a perceived and mostly falsely assumed attack on the Negro Race.

All of these things are why this Blogger will be voting differently on November 4, 2008.

Editorial: What were the Republicans thinking?

I sit here tonight shocked, saddened and a bit angry. I am angry because the Republican Party did something that I feel was utterly abominable. The Republican National Committee actually had the audacity to use 2998 deaths, 6291 injuries for the sole purpose to make a morbid political point. Anyone else of a sane mentality would find this mortifying. However, we are dealing with Republicans. It just seems to me that conservatives, not all mind you, have used these attacks as a rallying cry to patriotism. My friend, that is the same thing that Adolf Hitler did during his tenure in Germany.

I was watching the coverage of the Republican National Committee’s convention on MSNBC, when the supposed tribute to the 9/11 attacks was played. It was not in so much that the attacks were shown, it was how they were presented, it was the announcer saying the words “and we will never allow it to happen again.” That, my friends, really bothered me. Because you see, what basically the Republican Party was trying to infer was that if the American people elected a Democratic party president that it is possible that the September 11 attacks could happen again.

The problem with that whole mentality is this, it was a Republican who was in the White House on September 10th 2001 and not a Democrat.

A Republican president knew that there was intelligence suggesting that Al-Qaeda planned attacks in the United States of America and did nothing about it, not a Democrat.

Furthermore, it was a Republican president, which he used the September 11 attacks; as a reason to go to war with a nation that had absolutely nothing to do with the September 11 attacks and not a Democrat. Further he based that on information that turned out to be outright false.

However, the Neo-Conservative faction of the Republican Party felt the absolute need to take the horrific scars of September 11, 2001 and use it as a political ploy. As much as I know this is going to sound like I am being condescending towards the Republican Party, as far as I am concerned the Republican Party pissed on the graves of those who died on September 11. I say that proudly and without one damned ounce of regret. The Republican Party, as a collective whole, had damned well better be thanking his or her lucky stars that I did not have anyone die on September 11, 2001, because if I did I would be out for blood, so to speak.

This my friends is why I will not be voting Republican come November 4, 2008. No, not because I do not agree with their conservative values, but because I do not wish to be associated with a party, that uses a tragic event such as September 11, 2001 as nothing more than a political prop. I do not wish to be associated to part with a party that treats a death as collateral damage. I do not wish to be associated with a political party that treats our United States Military as a billable part, to a machine called War.

If it sounds like I am angry in this editorial, it is because I am, I am angry as hell that the Republican Party has become the old Democratic Party.

Keith Olbermann, of whom I have the most enduring respect, made a small statement shortly after the tribute was aired. I will share with you the contents of that small statement, let me just go on record as saying that I absolutely agree with his sentiment exactly and if he does not issue a special comment on his show tomorrow, I will be very highly displeased with him.

Keith’s comments are here:

In closing, let me simply say this I may not be a Democrat, nor may I agree with their idea of big government, socialism, nor their promoting of the gay agenda. However, let me be clear, I do not support a party that believes in the fatal conception of perpetual war. Nor do I support a party that believes that the memories of those who died on September 11, 2001 can be used as a campaign wedge issue.

Thank you for reading.

Memo to the Clinton supporters: Will you just get the hell over it already?

Jesus H. freakin’ Christ, this election cycle, for a Blogger like me, is like leading a circular firing squad.

First off, we have Neo-Conservative idiot William Kristol wanting to see nothing short of a floor fight at the Democratic Convention. Oh, I am absolutely sure that Kristol and his gang of Neo-Conservative morons would love nothing more than to see a giant floor fight, complete with (dare I say it?) the assassination of Barack Obama and the chaotic collapse of the Democratic Party into a smoldering heap. This all would be so the Neo-Conservatives could get to John McCain and continue to control Washington D.C. for the next 4 years. Thereby truly continuing the Neo-Conservative agenda in this Country.

Two words Kristol: Keep Dreaming!

If that is not enough to make a man want to take up drinking stiff whiskey, you have former Hillary supporters who are outraged! Outraged, I say! About the fact that Hillary Clinton was not even offered the position of Vice President.

Remember what I said about that circular firing squad? Well, hold on, hope you don’t get dizzy easy.

Listen people, Hillary Clinton, by most accounts, did not even WANT the job of Barack Obama’s Vice President. If she even did, could you freakin’ imagine that vetting process? I mean, people, Bill Clinton took funding from suspected terrorists overseas to build that freakin’ library of his! Not mention the fact that Bill Clinton seriously screwed over a guy, by the name of Peter F. Paul, who was business partners with Stan Lee. Heck, Peter F. Paul has living breathing evidence that Hillary Herself committed a felony during her fundrasing during her senate election campaign.

Not to even mention that if Barry had said, “Okay, forget the vetting, you can be my V.P.” Could you imagine that absolute shit-storm that the far, far, right would have created had Hillary been accepted for the Vice President? You have to know that the far right would have been digging for every last piece of media footage from the Waco compound siege in Waco, Texas and using it for Ads against Obama. Not to mention, The Monica scandal, Travel Gate, White Water, Vince Foster, and the list goes on and on and on and on.

Barack Obama might be a far lefty Liberal, but people, he is no dummy. Yeah, Biden might have a little baggage from a 1988 President campaign when he copied a speech. But honestly, that is absolutely nothing like the baggage that Hillary Clinton comes with. I mean, the two just are not comparable.

To the hardened Hillary supporters, I simply say this. I do not like anymore than you that Hillary lost. I think what the Democrat Party did here in Michigan and in Florida was absolutely wrong. But, unless your Party does something to change the rules of selection for President of United States, there’s nothing that can be done about it. The states moved up their primaries, and the DNC decided to punish them for it. Unless there are rule changes, that is just the way it is. I mean, standing around sucking your thumb and stamping your feet is not going to change a thing. I mean, seriously, do you, as an American citizen want to see four more years of George W. Bush?!?!?! That would be absolutely insane. You all just need to get the hell over it, and hope the Hillary decides to run again in 2012 or 2016. By that time, if Barry is a lame duck by then, Hillary will have a clear shot at the White House. That is, if she has not stroked out or something.

Democrats and a Police State

Keith Olbermann, a political commentator that I highly respect, made a very startling comment last night on his show. Keith, his idiotic political positions aside, will sometimes make a statement that brings one to a sobering reality. While flinging a well deserved criticism against the Bush Administration for its many idiotic policies made a very profound choice of words. Those words were, “Police State.”

Either Keith is just willfully stupid or simply badly misinformed. It is a known fact that Democrats are for a police state. The whole idea of social justice, Government sponsored or controlled healthcare, Government controlled or owned oil companies, is, in fact, a de facto tenet of big government, more specifically it is the direct tenet of Communism. The Democratic Party and its many socialist minions want to control and contain Christianity. They would destroy it, but the Conservative grass roots movement would not allow it.

Let me be clear, I do not believe in the idea of a theocratic Government. A theocratic Government excludes segments of society, and I am not excluding anyone at all. What I am for is a secular Government that allows for Individual and personal freedom, Freedom to practice, of choice of, and from Religion, Freedom of Speech, without conditions. Democrats and Republicans BOTH believe in freedom of speech, as long as it conforms to their political, religious, and personal ideologies. That is not true freedom of speech. That is freedom of speech with conditions, which is NOT what our constitution gives us.

I will give Olbermann a little credit here he does recognize this current President Administration as an out of control Neo-Conservative imperialistic Presidency. Keith likes to call them Fascists; I personally do not think that is the correct terminology to use. This terminology one could use in the fact that Bush did attempt to suppress dissent of his execution of the Iraq War. However, I digress.

My biggest issues with Keith Olbermann are as follows:

First is his inability to realize that the U.S. Military working at the pentagon are in fact just as much military personnel, as the ones working in the battlefield in Iraq. What Keith fails to realize is that most of the people in the pentagon are just doing that which those higher in power tell them. So, it does tend to annoy me a bit when Keith Olbermann tells the officers in the United States Military to “Go to hell”, as he has said in the past. It simply strikes me as hypocritical to say you support the troops in one breath and tell them to go to hell in another.

Second is his grand delusion that somehow the Democratic Party is going to be some sort of wonderful alternative to the Republicans. Speaking strictly on the terms of a police state, the socialist movement is the premier advocate of governmental control. This is, considered by many, to be a police state and could in fact turn into a police state at a drop of a hat.

Thirdly Keith throwing under the bus a Washington Post columnist who, frankly, decided to think for himself and not follow the chorus line of praises, from the so-called objective media. This shows a bad case of bias, and frankly makes Keith look quite unprofessional.

Then again, this is someone who supports a “Police State,” So, what can one expect from him?

Guest Voice: J.J. Jackson asks "The Red Light Is On – Will You Defer?"

The Red Light Is On – Will You Defer?

By: J.J. Jackson

In the opening pages of Ayn Rand’s best seller, “Atlas Shrugged”, we
find a bunch of people standing around outside of a stopped train
staring at a red light. Why the red light is on none of them know for
sure, but it is a signal of danger ahead. Of course, none of them can
confirm that there is actually any danger on the track ahead or if it
is just another malfunction caused by a deteriorating society in which
many are willing to simply defer to others, accept that there really is
danger ahead and that if there is a problem someone else will fix it.

When Dagny Taggart, one of the characters of the novel who happens to
be the Vice President of Operations for the railroad and actually on
the stopped train, questions the crew about why they are stopped she
gets a lot of hemming and hawing over the situation. No one with any
authority wants to take responsibility for what might happen if they
continue on despite the red light. No one, that is, except Ms. Taggart.

She orders them to resume the trip which leads to lots of questions
including demands that if something should go wrong and that there
actually is danger ahead that she takes responsibility because no one
else wants to be held to account for the action. She, of course,
answers that naturally she will take responsibility. So the passengers
get back on board and the crew plows ahead back onto the main line and
to their destination – without incident mind you.

Had one person not stepped up and taken initiative however the train
would still be sitting along the side of the track, and everyone would
have been late because of a false alarm. And had it not been a person
with clout, but rather just the lowly passengers themselves demanding
the journey continue the crew of the train probably would have been
less likely to concede because they would have been ultimately
responsible being that they were in charge of the train. But since the
Vice President was there and giving orders, well that made things
different. The crew was not responsible any more.

It is important to note that in this scene however that the crew of the
train does not put up too much of a fight against being ordered to
continue on despite the red light of warning. In fact, it appears that
they were quite aware that there was no real danger and were just
looking to not have any culpability if they happened to be wrong.

Can you say America today in a nutshell?

Whenever I read “Atlas Shrugged” I always seem to find something new
that relates so well to the way we are heading in America. Which is
why I try to reread it every couple years. It is a laborious task to
be sure. Rand’s prose is not exactly well formed and smooth much of
the time. But the story and the lessons more than make up for pain.

The red light analogy relating to our society today certainly however
is not one of those things I have recently discovered. I have thought
about it a lot over the years.

We have become a nation full of red light watchers. If one goes on,
many of us pay astute attention even if we know it is likely a false
alarm. We act this way because to ignore the red light means taking
responsibility for ignoring it. So it is just easier to stand huddled
around the beacon and wait for it to give us permission to proceed or
for someone with authority to tell us it is ok to ignore it because it
is obviously broken.

And then if there is trouble ahead it is ok because we are not
responsible. Someone else is. If we get hurt there will always be
someone to blame. Usually that someone has very deep pockets.

Some of the red lights never seem to go out. They just remain red.
Ten years ago we were given a red light, for example, on drilling for
our own domestic oil resources in ANWR; a desolate wasteland that is a
mosquito breeding ground for a few months when the permafrost is
actually thawed. Now we suffer from failing supplies and are being
told that it is pointless to open up the reserves now because it would
take years to retrieve them. Perhaps the same ten years that we have
been already sitting on our hands, to get the oil out?

Obviously the problem is not that there is not enough oil to be had.
The problem is we abided by that first red light when we knew we
should not. And now that it is shown that the first red light is the
problem, we have just been given another red light to reinforce that we
should once again just stand around abiding by the previous, and
obviously broken, light.

In places like Washington D.C. a red light was put up to tell residents
that they should not worry about defending themselves. Thankfully many
people did actually ignore that silliness but many others stood around
watching that red light waiting to eagerly be told that they could keep
and bear arms without the restrictions that made keeping and bearing
those arms for defense impossible. As the residents stood about
watching that red light crime ran about them rampantly.

In the town of New London, Connecticut there went up a red light on the
right of people to own property except for when the government had a
legitimate public use for it and paid them justly to acquire it. Some
fought against abiding by that red light only to have the Supreme Court
smack them down. Others threw up their hands and abided by the light
that told them what to do. Today all those properties that were taken
sit undeveloped as the developer has backed out of the deal. A deal
that would have not provided anything for public use but only for the
benefit of politicians.

Where the next red light will be is anyone’s guess. But when it is
placed before you will you blindly abide by it? Or will you question
it boldly and ignore it if it does indeed need to be ignored? And if
you do, will you accept the consequences or rewards of your choices?

Further thoughts on the Edwards scandal …

It seems that John’s Wife, Elizabeth has posted a message at Kos.

Today by Elizabeth Edwards (Via DailyKos):

Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.

John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007. This was our private matter, and I frankly wanted it to be private because as painful as it was I did not want to have to play it out on a public stage as well. Because of a recent string of hurtful and absurd lies in a tabloid publication, because of a picture falsely suggesting that John was spending time with a child it wrongly alleged he had fathered outside our marriage, our private matter could no longer be wholly private.

The pain of the long journey since 2006 was about to be renewed.

John has spoken in a long on-camera interview I hope you watch. Admitting one’s mistakes is a hard thing for anyone to do, and I am proud of the courage John showed by his honesty in the face of shame. The toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown. But now the truth is out, and the repair work that began in 2006 will continue. I ask that the public, who expressed concern about the harm John’s conduct has done to us, think also about the real harm that the present voyeurism does and give me and my family the privacy we need at this time.

Unlike some, who are berating her for her husband’s action. I will not do this. What people need to understand is this, The Edwards family is more than just a political family; they are southern folk. Now before anyone takes this the wrong way, as my now deceased Grandmother, who was from Dalton, Georgia would say, “Now hold your horses!” So, hold your horses, and hear me out.

It is a commonplace among the women on the south, to be fiercely protective of their husbands. No matter what they have done. Yes, I am sure she is angry with him, who would not be? Nevertheless, she still loves him, and that protective kind of a love, which is very common in the south, is a bizarre thing to behold. Believe me, when I say this, this is not to be taken as an insult. That is the, if you will pardon the illusion to it, the “Stand by your man” kind of love, that Hillary Clinton mocked. If Edwards were from New York, he would be a single man by now.

However, the Edwards are from the south, it is taught or used to be taught, back in the old days, that Women were to stand by their man, and love him, no matter what. Where does this sort of a teaching come from? The Church. From the Bible itself. It is part of our common American value system. There is nothing wrong with it at all.

Does this justify the fact that Mrs. Edwards knowingly lied about her husband’s affair to their followers and staff? No. Does it justify that the Edwards used their supposed “Family Values” as a charade to get Edwards elected? Not one bit. Nevertheless, the fact remains; she was doing what she was trained to do. Protecting the one she loves.

What drives me up the proverbial wall is the media’s insistence that somehow that the Edwards owe them some sort of an apology. I have not in my many years of following Politics, from afar and now close up like I do, seen such utter hypocrisy from the main stream media in my entire life. All during the primary election, the Main Stream Media could have given two plug nickels about the Edwards campaign; they were too busy with their proverbial noses being stuck up the proverbial royal behinds of Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Now that this scandal has broken, they somehow or another have appointed themselves to be the judge, jury and executioners of the Edwards personal lives, future political ambitions and future in the public eye as a whole. This, as far as this political blogger is concerned, speaks to the thuggish mafia mentality of the cooperate controlled Media in this country. It also speaks to the “I got to have the latest greatest news” mentality of the 21-century populous in this Nation and in this God-Forsaken world of ours as a whole.

As I said previously in my last posting on this subject, my prayers will be with the Edwards family. But my prayers will also be that the Blogging world and that the main stream media would finally see this damned story for that it is; a private family matter and will collectively as whole, move on to the next story.

Editorial: Honestly, When does the political truce start?

I have asked the question aloud many times here in the last few weeks. However, I have never really felt the need to write about this question at all. That is, until now.

America is a nation divided, Liberals hate Conservatives, Conservatives Hate Liberals, Moderates think they are both crazy, and Libertarians hate everybody. I mean, how much more can this Nation stand of this sort of a thing? It is about as bad as the McCarthy era, only worse. At least back on those days, there was a bit of civility amongst the people. Nowadays? Ha! We are fortunate that the readers of “The Nation” and “The National Review” do not have access to the Nations Missile defense system; otherwise, I truly believe that this Nation would be blown to kingdom come.

Keith Olbermann; A man that I respect highly, not only as a writer, but as a political commentator, made a comment on his show a while back, which was possibly one of the most brilliant things to ever come out of that liberal talking bobble head’s mouth, since I have been watching his show. It was, in fact, a short quaint statement; something that I would never expect to hear out of his gullet anyhow.

“A truce would be nice”

I do not believe that Keith realized what he had said. Possibly he did. Perhaps Keith is feeling what many people, I think, are feeling as well. When is the civility in Politics ever going to come back? When are Conservatives and Liberals going to be able to be around one another, without wanting to shout epitaphs at one another? When are things going return back to normal here in America?

I ask this because a few things have happened here in the last few days. For one, a writer, of whom I have a great deal of respect for, decided that the political discourse in America had just gotten to be a bit much and he stopped writing. Second, I happened to notice that a copyright law blogger, just decided that the whole idea of writing had just become too depressing and that he was stopping.

My question is this; has the political atmosphere in America gotten so poisonous that it has seeped into the general consciousness of society to the point where political writers and even non-political writers are just to the point where they are ready to just throw their hands up and give up? Has this President caused this? Has this war caused this? It absolutely boggles the mind.

I write this; not with a solution or an answer, but a question, what will it take? When will the return to normalcy begin? Will it be after the President has left office? Will it be after the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have finally ended? Will there ever be a day in this country; on this planet, that Conservatives and Liberals, Republicans and Democrats, and yes; even Libertarians will be actually able to exist in the same Country and be able to understand one another, but not necessarily agree? Is this normalcy even possible anymore? Did it ever exist at anytime in the past?

Martin Luther King Jr., his politics aside, made a profound choice of words once. Those words spoke of “of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane.” I believe that the President of the United States of America, in his misguided mission to bring Democracy to the Middle East, has injected the people of the United States of America with a drug of hate. A hatred of a War; A hatred of a war that no one wanted to be involved with, a hatred of war that was unwanted, unneeded, and very unjustified. A war that was sold to the Nation like a book sold to a blind man, only the pages in this book, were blank.

This hate is not visible; it is not much readily seen. However, there are times when it comes to this surface and rears its ugly head. Just this past week, John McCain’s campaign produced a political ad, attacking Barack Obama. In this ad flashed the images of two well-known white starlets and then an image Barack Obama. Yes, the underlying message was that Obama was in the same league as these women. However, on the sub-conscience level there was a comparison to be made, between White and Black. Barack Obama instead of taking that “Higher Plane” that Dr King spoke of, he allowed himself to be dragged into the hate game. He goes off and makes a comment like “I don’t look like those guys on the Dollar Bills.” Some people would say that Obama played the race card, which is a misconception, what Obama did was play John McCain’s hand sub-consciously. This all comes from that drug of hate, of which Dr. King spoke about.

What is the antidote for this drug of hate? That is a very complex answer. What we need is a truce, a truce that says, I do not agree with those who are of another political persuasion, but I wish them no ill will. Because whether we want to admit it or not, regardless of whether we are Conservatives or Liberals, Democrats or Republicans, we are all still Americans. This is our country and the quicker we all talk ourselves down from the ledges, remove ourselves from the battle stations, and try carry on a civil discourse, rather than the poison of the past. We will never be the nation we were, before September 11, Before the War in Iraq, before President Bush took office. Before everything went berserk in America.

That truce is looking very good right now.
